Paul,
Please dont take this the wrong way, but I had to laugh when I first started reading your response. And it isn't because it is funny, because I know that YOU'RE RIGHT (in a legal way), but because a very good friend of mine is also a lawyer and we have had similar conversations.
For what it's worth, I dont make a habit of removing markings from any of my guns, in fact, this is the first one--and will probably be the only one. I definitely wont do it with any modern ones as I am aware of the laws against that. Here is my logic. I have a kit .32 that TVM built for me becasue I didn't have the necessary skill, and it doesn't have any markings. I also got this GPR kit .50, and then decided to remove some of the markings, and then ended up removing them all, I will send you a PM as to why. As has been said above, I have no intentions of ever selling this rifle, so I don't see the markings being missing being an issue. As to removing metal and weakening the rifle, it is a .50 GPR with a 15/16" barrel, and the stamped markings raise the edges of the stamping quite a bit, as I almost couldn't read the stamp by the time I got the raised area drawfiled off and just barely took any barrel metal off. I actually measured the barrel diameter before and after with calipers and the difference between the draw filed area and the barrel 6 inches away that wasn't drawfiled is .003", so not nearly enough to worry about by any means. The gun is as safe to shoot as it was when it left the factory as far as I'm concerned. And since I have no intention of selling it, I don't consider it a liability--but I do thank you for the concern and the warning. :hatsoff:
