I have a Lyman and Pedersoli Great Plains rifle. Both are percussion and 50 caliber. Can I buy a flint lock complete assembly and convert it the percusion to a flintlock? If so what brand of lock and where can I buy it? Thanks for any information.

You can’t convert either unless you get another barrel. Both percussion barrels do not have a removable drum. You’d need a barrel with a touch hole liner in addition to a flintlock lock. It would be cheaper to just buy a complete flintlock rifle.
Thanks treeman for the help

If you could find Lyman flinchlock breechplug and lock and have the expertise/tools(or know somebody that does) to do the job it can be done. Or you could change lock and barrel both. But as TreeMan said, time you do all that, be easier and probably cheaper to just buy another gun.

The above post just told me the answer to a question that I have. Davis trigger. I really enjoy my old GP except for the trigger mechanism. Now comes the job of finding one. Thanks olkev.

I personally am not interested in any rifle with a drum. The older Lymans are nice rifles.

Best thing to do is just buy a flintlock, plain and simple.

Pedersoli- yes
Lyman - no

I have converted 3 of my cap guns to flint now.
What I have experienced is a small drop in elevation - likely due to some gas losses through the flash channel. Other than that - no real difference. One of the conversions was a tough one, had to do some woodwork, move the trigger back a tad and deepen the mortise.
The other 2 are Pedersoli guns, and all that was required was changing the lock out and replacing the drum with a vent liner.
And of course - I have kept 2 of the locks in case I ever want to go back. The third lock was badly damaged so I sent it off to a parts guy to use for replacement parts.
