Wednesday night at 1710 hrs. killed my first deer with a
flintlock. This is my second season of hunting with a flintlock and cann't get enough. I was using my custom made 50 cal. Penna. longrifle, roundball, .015 prelubed patch. 60 yard shot to the lungs, travelled less than 65 yards. I'm in the process of having a nice 32 cal. Pa Long
rifle made for groundhog hunting this Spring in Penna. I also own a 54 cal. GPR in percussion and I'm looking into
possibility of having it converted to flint. Just think only 9 months until hunting season begins again. You all have a happy and safe New Year's Eve. :redthumb: :redthumb:

Aaahhhhhh...another NC convert...I know the feeling, congratulations!
I made the switch 3 years ago and now shoot them year round, do all my hunting with them, etc.

You're doing better than me. I shot a tree in Ark once, blooming deer must have ducked, at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Well done

PS: Trust you will have saved me a deerburger should I make it back across el pondo, I don't get enough venison in my diet.

the first kill makes for great memories and inspires those of us who aren't having very good luck to keep on huntin.Congrations!

Legal time in NC is 30 minutes after sundown

Creekbottom NC isn't farther east it is farther south . and it has about .5 hr of more daylight than Pa.....I am originaly from pa and now live 8 miles from NC line in Va.

North Carolina would be sooner than Pa as its farther east
HHHHMMMMMMmmmmmmmm????

His official sunset Wednesday was 17:09...add 30 minutes, he was good to 17:39...more than legal

Well regardless of the time I say Congrats to ya Pasquenil/Cobra sounds like ya made a fine shot. It only gets better!
Thank God for Flintlocks! Eh! :redthumb:

Roundball is correct 1739 end of legal shooting time in Concord, NC. I had a good 20-25 minutes of good light
to clearly see sights and target. As far as i'm concerned
game law violators should be tarred and feathered. I've a real problem with unethical hunters. I'm a poor dude and
do all hunting on State & Federal game lands and ever since
they came out with ATVs, it has really effected hunting these lands. Ride in dump corn, ride out before anyone is
the wiser. You scout and do your home work than cann't figure out what is happening!! Scout around the area and
find bait piles, hike out and call game warden. NO USE FOR
THESE GUYS. Well enough, happy new year and I hope everyone
made it into 2005 safely.

I Know that there is legal shooting times in every state or Province but for me it's usually stay put untill I can't see my sights any longer.Especially if there's deer around me.

Rather than nit-pick at the sunset times, I'll just congratulate you on a difficult feat accomplished. Whitetail and whitesmoke... way to go P/C!

Congratulations! I'm real close to you, just a few miles North in Salisbury. We should hook up and make some smoke some time.

You mentioned converting your GPR to flint... according to Lyman, the locks are quite different, and they say it's actually cheaper to simply buy a new rifle in flintlock. I have a 54 GPR flintlock, and it shoots great. You won't be sorry if you spend the money/trade/sell the caplock to get another one.

Who's building your custom rifles for you? Anybody local?

My gun maker who naturally has become a good friend is Mark Ervin. He came highly recommended to me by the lead man in the NC Flintlock field. Mark might not be Herschel House
but in my opinion make a nice rifle for the money. I used the 50 cal. he made for me to take my first deer with a flintlock on Dec 29th this year. This is Mark's telephone number 7045962235, in Charlotte<NC. If your looking for a new rifle it's worth looking into. My Tradition 50 cal cost
about $500 and is nice, but the gun Mark made for be is special, as it fits me like a glove. Going fishing at Badin lake today. Will be home by 7PM if you like to give me a call, 7047866600. Have a good day. :peace:

Oh man I hate them ATV's.

:curse:

They have been closing a lot of backroads/logging roads in Washington State and it really makes for nice hunting, better for the game and everything else, but the ATVers keep going around the barriers and driving on them...no matter how high a berm you plow up there's always a way around it. And of course THEY are all mad about the road closers...it "eliminates" thier access to the wilderness!!!!!!!! (that's their story and they are sticking to it!)

I think the road closers have been the best thing they've ever done around here in the State and National forrests, and for hunting.

Now how do you suppose one of those things runs with some black powder in the gas tank??

:hmm:

No offense to any ATVers on this forum...I'm sure any here are responsible riders.

hunt there area and if caught "i didn't know it was there" is what you say to any game warden that might ask you....and then say "it must have been one of those atv's that are always in here"....beat them at there own game so to say....i know hunting bait piles isn't right but take back the game there trying to steal from you.................bob

Wisconsin allows baiting and I hate it!! You should see some of the corn piles I have seen. I do not hunt over bait as I have my own private land to hunt on but i have been grouse hunting on wisconsin's abundant public lands and have seen HUGE piles of corn. I plan on moving back to minnesota when my kids are done with school were you actually have to hunt deer. I have bben sending letters to my state reps but have not gotten a response yet. Anyways, good job on the deer and there is nothing like taking deer with PRB
