Making #11 caps

Making #11 caps tonight for the first time, heard many comments on tips and how to do it. 22LR die set and prime all. I made the first twenty or so single thickness, then tried double and they are the way to go. Form much better and uniformly, there drying now and will be tested on Friday.

The cap maker and the "prime-all" compound are all available there.

The cap making takes some time and making a lot of bad ones.
The is a you tube thats called making perfect caps. I use his method now.
Works great.

The cap kits from 22 Reloader are a very sound investment IMO.

I purchased mine from dixie muzzleloading, same kit just ordered from them. I double the thickness of the caps and use duco cement and acetone as a sealer.

Find a local machine shop and get some .005” copper shim stock. Makes a perfect cap. If they don’t have copper brass will do.

I just use aluminum pop cans and pie tins folded in half and punch them out.

I like the way he standardizes his method. I don't use Duco but I use model airplane glue for wooden airplanes. It has acetone in it and easily dissolves in pure acetone. Yes, it is ground glass and that is added as a friction enhancer. I don't leave it out.

Nope not ground glass it’s only a binder. Prove it to your self take a little out add a smidge of water it turns to goo as a paste not granular like glass. I don’t even use it any more I just use my own binder for over 1000 caps so far and no mis fires! As a fact I burned 60 today at the range.

It can be proved to not be glass. Take the test. Mix some of the little bag off white powder with water. stir it up and make a paste out of it. Let dry completely. If its ground glass ,it will still be glass. If it looks like a dried up glob of Elmer's glue ,its something else.
