Well, since we are talking mocassins, there's the soft leather sideseam and then what I have been told is an 1860's or later hard sole- the kind the Sioux wore at the Little Bighorn battle. This hard sole has a rawhide sole and then a top that gets sewn around the sole- the finished thing looks sort of like a side seam but the toe is usually more rounded while the one piece side seam has a more pointed toe.
Am I right about the post 1840 aspect of this mocassin style?
