I can't believe it's May 1 already! April zipped by too quickly. Hope that all members who live up in the snow will have better shooting weather in May.

Since May 23 is Lucky Penny Day, this month's target will be a contest to hit the penny. Shoot 5 shots at 25 yards offhand for rifle. Pistol shooters shoot from 15 yards.

Hits inside the penny are 10pts. Anywhere else in the body scores 5 pts (the tail doesn't count).

1/2 of the ball diameter must be inside the scoring area to count. Please try to post pics of your equipment along with your target and write your score on the target. This will be a reentry match - shoot it as many times as you want but only post your best target.

Hope you enjoy this and I look forward to seeing some good scores with this target - I think I will be able to see it better!

Gary

I printer out my target and am going to try and shoot it this Wednesday. The problem I have is I twisted my left knee a couple of weeks ago and tore a couple of things. Having minor surgery next week. So hopefully I can at least hit the pig.

Hi Richard - sorry to hear about your knee - hope your surgery is successful and you have a fast recovery. Go ahead and shoot from a chair if you can't stand up.

Gary, here’s my May target: Off Hand, score 25
.62 cal Fusil de Chasse Smoothbore
.600 RB
.020 patch with Ballistol&water lube
80 gr Goex 2F charge, 2F in the pan

Gary, first of all thanks for your work on this contest.
I'm wondering if we would get more participants if we had a category for people shooting from a rest. I think I might have mentioned this before.
At my club, most of the rifle range shooters are firing unmentionables. And from my observation more then 9 out of 10 shoot from a rest. Even at 50 yards. If we allowed people to shoot at the 25 yard from a rest they could be placed in a separate category. After a while it might even tempt them to try off hand.
Just a thought.

I don't mind Neal and I agree that it might stimulate more participation! I will edit the post tonight and specifiy you can submit two targets - 1 each OH and rest. Let's see how this works!

Thanks for the suggestion Neal!

Nice shooting PK with that Fusil de Chasse smoothie. Not very likely I will do that good with my Kibler Colonial rifle when I get out.

11th Corps (Neal) had a good suggestion - let's have two categories for the postal match - one will be offhand and the other shooting from the bench. If you want to shoot one or both targets please mark clearly if you shot offhand or benchrest. Still prefer you only post one target in each category to keep my record keeping simple - just post your best target in one or both categories. Other rules are the same - shoot at 25 yards and please score your hits on the target - sometimes it is difficult to see the targets after they are posted! Pistol shooters can do the same - offhand or benchrest.

Welcome! All you need to do is shoot your target by printing from the attached pdf file at the top of the thread. After you shoot the target, complete the information shown on the target and take a picture of the target (and ideally your rifle or pistol so everyone can enjoy seeing the equipment.) Score your target and write your score on the target. At the end of the month I compile the scores and list them at the end of the thread. There is no cost and no prizes are awarded - it's just for fun and friendly competition with like-minded shooters on this forum!

You can shoot rifle at 25 yds offhand or from a bench (mark your target which way you shot it) and the same for pistils, except shoot from 15 yds for pistiols. Only post your best target in each category as I don't have time to sort through multiple reentries :)

Have fun!

While I can't really hit anything I'd like to challenge myself so I'll shoot standing on my two hind legs like a human.

Uh oh! I can't get the target to print out. Maybe it's this old computer?

It's a standard pdf file - can you see it open in your computer but it just won't print?
