Nice shooting Moe

Thank you probably the most accurate muzzleloader I own.

In 1984 the owner of this rifle was tragically killed in a chain saw accident. He was my brother in law, 30 years old. He left a wife and 3 kids, one a daughter 6 months old. He and I talked guns all the time and developed an interest in muzzleloaders during the Bi Centennial. Fast forward to last Saturday, his middle son asked if I could check the rifle out. It has not been fired since his death. I took it home, made sure it was unloaded, then took it to the range today.
I'm pretty sure it was a kit gun, it has no markings on the side plate lock or barrel-at least what I can see w/o pulling the barrel.
It appears to be .36 caliber. I had some .350 balls I purchased a few years ago for another gun. I used 3F powder-35 grains.
It is decidely muzzle heavy. I imagine the mfg of the barrels made all the blanks the same diameter, then drilled them for the calibers.
It was a sweet shooter. This is the target for the challenge. Off hand.

Here is the 3 shot group rested. The nephew wants to shoot this rifle with his brother when we have our annual gun range trip on Thanksgiving. Neither of the men is a shooter.

Time to get them interested! I have always found that anyone who has any interest in firearms always have a big smile on their face after shooting ML for the first time!

No more candy corn for me, but I did play with my Green River Forge NW Trade Gun today. Here's the link, https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/...rf-20ga-sb-with-a-572-rb.187091/#post-2733323. Maybe there's something that will be useful to other smoothbore shooters?
However, I don't know whether my gun is ready for a monthly target.

October was a busy month for me and I did not have an opportunity to get out to shoot this target or much of anything! I wasn't the only one - lighter turnout in October - hate when life gets in the way of having fun.

Thanks to everyone who participated and results are posted in the pdf file.

I am looking forward to shooting the mason jar this month!

I picked up a brass frame pieta 1851 at local gun show over the weekend. We will see if I can get a better pistol target with it!

It's the Corps symbol for the 11th. Civil War union army. My gg was a member.

Gotcha. It’s similar to the flag that flew over Ft Moultrie during the Revolution.

Well I got my nephews and my son plus 2 other guys out to shoot the muzzleloader. Needless to say they were excited. I had them point to their shots. Great Thanksgiving day, a bit nippy but we had a blast. Great to introduce new shooters to the world of the front stuffer.
