Took my Pietta Colt 1851 Navy Civilian in .44 caliber (from Cabela's) to the range today and couldn't believe the results. Shooting .451 Speer balls over an Ox-Yoke wad and 25 grains of American Pioneer FFFg with Remington #11s, the pistol consistently put all six shots into a eight inch circle at 25 yards. This was standing, with a one hand hold. I have no idea how good this is for other shooters, but for me, it is spectacular. Never shot any iron sighted pistol this well before. Can't wait to get back.

Good Shooting.

I can do that with my Single Six in .22LR, but not my 1851 Navy.

I've been shooting .22 Mag in my Ruger Single Six for a month now, 2 times a week, 50-100 shots each time, one hand hold. I'm still lucky to get one out of 6 in the circle. Maybe I'll put the .22 LR cylinder on.

Definitely need to spend more time with the Colt 1851. Made my son run to the truck for the camera and get a picture today:

That is a good group to shoot out of the box like that. Back in those days a group like that center mass would have gotten the job done. Good stuff!!

My Single Six has some big Houge monogrips that really mold it to my hand, much better than the stock 1851 Navy. That's what I think makes the difference. I shoot much better with those grips than the stock Ruger wood. And shooting LR's instead of the WMR's is slightly better with either grip.
