For public.. Before Detroit.

A tornado went threw there one year. It was good.

Mostly because no one hunted it. The guy down the street dumps all his gut piles in the parking lot for the city it's to camp on..

I had 2 acres of private on that cass river.

Even I was seeing enough doe.. that I even offered permission for a group from Lapeer to shoot a doe or whatever for the kid. I felt bad.

It was mostly doe.. bucks get shot up hard. I dunno 30 doe for 1 buck.

With the sickness these deer get..

I'm on the side that.. they should be all shot out.. those herds are no good..

You need to shoot the population down to seeing one deer in a week..

If you have one bad chicken in the flock. There all no good.

The people on private.. there not baiting. There Feeding those deer.

Those deer leave public and don't go back. Any buck seen is shot on public.

Everyone on private.. watching allot of doe a season. there shooting nice Buck.

The only doe I seen shot was mine. I think I'm the only one that shot a couple doe.

Funny. I want to add..

the biggest turkeys I've ever seen was there..

I seen a few big Tom's.. Twice the size as normal it was just not normal. There Big Bird.

Road kills too.. seen a good amount there.

No one takes road kill. Just left on the side to rot..

I get it.. that usually bruised and blood clotted up bad.. but there is meat that's not.

I dunno. I watched a car hit a deer. I stopped too help. the deer why not I took it they didn't want it they were leaving it like everyone I seen.. it was bad that got hit hard. But one side was ok so 🤷

I think your confused about where I hunt. I'm in the Northwest corner of Michigan. You can't pay me enuff to get near Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing or any place else in Southern Michigan.! Only time I'm in Southern Michigan is when I'm driving out of Michigan....lol

Lol..

Lol...

I didn't venture further because..
You know I was happy with 2acrea.

And when those hunters are gone. it's nice place.

Basically I ran around public land when they were gone. Check all the bait they put out.. hunt where you see where the deer hit it.

I dont see why.. Anyway.

The weapons season..

Why not make regular gun season this alternative weapon.

Is just allow the air guns during regular fun season and call it good..

Let's face it.. it's air gun season for most.. Loop hole felons more hunters..

It only looks like that.. to be honest its for felons to hunt.. and that's allot of people now that can go.

Is funny though..

I don't have a problem with either.. but it gets weird to watch doe waiting for buck not shoot nothing. You watch these deer and they get used to you after a while.. then you decide to shoot a doe or something and you just want it to be sporting like..

I was trying to get them off public after everyone.. I couldn't just sit pretty on 2 acres it's just not hunting.

Missouri went to an "alternative methods season" a few years ago... it used to be muzzleloader season, but... I guess times change. For this new season you can use any weapon EXCEPT centerfire rifle/shotgun. Pistols, in-lines, air guns, flint, cap, bow, crossbow, spears, etc.

My post was no tongue in cheek statement. Currently our so called season is happening in the lower Peninsula. You can use any legal firearm period. That's a fact and go look it up. Also you are allowed a 12 deer total. Two bucks an 10 does but unfortunately this is not good management because certain areas don't have the deer herd. To support this. Maybe Southern Michigan yes but the Northern lower no way. Our group is a total of five hunters. The youngest members have been hunting for ten plus years. Total kill this year was three bucks an one doe. Total deer seen 9 for all of us. That includes trail cameras. This is private land and great deer habitat. We also don't shoot anything less than an 8 point.
So tell me we're over run with deer..?
Lansing and the DNR suck at management in our area.
Sp when you say "any legal firearm" do you mean any in general or any that Michigan has designated for the season in your area? IF I ever get to hunt again I'd really like to use something in a 30 cal. I have a 6.5 CM I named AT&T because it can "reach out and touch".

What can you use? What's the alt method weapon.

You can use any center fire cartridge firearm except 22 rim fire. Shotguns, pistols, revolvers, crossbows, long bows, compound etc. are all legal. Yes you can use your muzzleloaders too..! Flintlock, percussion, in line. Even your b.p. pistols or revolver. I think I'll use my seven shot bolt action 50 cal BMG. Them whitetails are tough...lol
Just go online and double check the Michigan hunting rules.. The Upper Peninsula rules are different. Cheers

Yes. That I did notice..

They can and do run dead harder further than anywhere.. I found that weird..

Also the hight and distance a big buck there can jump they jump.

If there are to many deer you run the risk of the herd catching C.W.D. which you do not want. When you see a lot of deer and some have a poor looking shape

I think they want but have trouble getting non res... other than some ohio.

Its been a while.

To go there for a couple doe.. maybe buck maybe but if you're going you need a couple doe for the trip.. it's 1 or 2 weeks of work you take off. You need to drive your not flying those deer home. A place to stay. Food. License fee... it's not cheap.

Other than giving me ten tags. Lol OK I'll have some happy dogs in this house. It's got me thinking 🤔

The doe tag non res was over 100 that hurts.. but now it's 20.
