Speaking of Italian stuff, Fiocci, the Italian ammo-maker, is building a plant in Georgia
to mfg. un-mentionable ammo, plus a plant for primers. Would be nice if they got
into percussion primers, too. How's about we 'invent' an abbreviated term for "Un-
mentionable? Any suggestions?

How's about we 'invent' an abbreviated term for "Un-mentionable? Any suggestions?

I’ve seen tha abbreviation “BL” used for “breechloader,” as opposed to “ML” for “muzzleloader.” Maybe a little prosaic but it seems to work, as long as the context is clear.

I just got 1000 .454 round balls from Midway for 100 bucks shipped, I love them

On top of the probably dozen cap and ballers I've scored from them this year

In this case I’d have used CF ammo and primers.

If they make 209 primers I'll be happy

I don't think they'll make caps....there's no $ in it , CCI and Remington are already set up for it and just make them to serve loyal customers plus Rio cranks out musket caps.

Still, more domestic ammo is a good thing

The prices are all over the map....they just had .44 Brassers for $220 a month ago and out of nowhere they'll drastically slash the price on a few models

I bought a fluted 1860 Sheriff's model from them and received it two days ago. I figured the price won't likely get much better so pulled the trigger. The gun looks good, has some rough edges here and there but locks up solid. It will get some fluff 'n buff work on the internals to smooth it out. It's not the same degree of parts refinement I was used to decades ago during the heyday of Italian C&B manufacturing, but it should work OK. It's apparent immediately in the hammer...can see the mold lines whereas the earlier versions were machined. The muzzle looks more like it was just cut back and squared off from the stock 8 incher and doesn't have any crown to it. I ordered a set of Slixshot nipples which will go on before I head to the range with it. One of the stock nipples is blocked...not sure with what, but will see when I get them removed. So, for those getting new C&B's, check yer nipples!

One of the nipples of a Pietta .44 Navy I got from Midway was blocked with metal from the nipple threads being tapped. I just poked it out with a punch

Piettas are awesome fun shooters but they aren't going to be perfect, and it looks like they went to cast or MIM hammers and triggers which is fine

The Italians started making these because of Spaghetti Westerns, they're supposed to be fun, we're not looking for museum pieces here

I recently bought an 1860 Army (Pietta) about three weeks ago for $299.00. Can't recall right off who I bought it from, but pretty sure they are a sponsor for this site.

Taboo seems appropriate and only 5 letters...

A 'taboo' is a social group's ban, prohibition, or avoidance of something based on the group's sense that it is excessively repulsive, offensive, sacred, or allowed only for certain persons.

I can see where this forum prefers to stay on task and prohibit discussions of certain styles of firearms, but I would find it hard to believe that the majority of the people who participate in discussion here consider such firearms as being excessively repulsive or offensive. I suspect that most here actually possess and use such fire arms for various sporting and defensive purposes.

A shorter acronym for the 'unmentionable' items could be to describe them as being in violation of forum guidelines - VOFG (4 letters)
