I don't know if this is really relative or not, but I have used .58 Minnie's in my smooth bore Egyptian Snider. Some folks commented that they would not be accurate to any degree, and if I was trying to punch holes in paper to make points they would be right, but just shooting at a plate sized rock or clump of grass at 50 to 70 yards they come darn close. I can't see any reason one wouldn't work out of a smooth bore muzzleloader the same way. Purchase some, keep your charge down to charges recommended here and see what happens, you might be surprised.
