Look at the patina on the lead in the picture from eBay. That is thick white lead oxide like you see on civil war bullets. Notice the lack of patina on the exposed areas of the painted one. Specifically at the bottom of the letters that wouldn’t have been hit by the plow.
 
If lead is buried there won’t be any or much oxidation. Oxidation happens if it’s been exposed to air for a long time.
There is oxygen in the ground, oxidation does occur in the dirt. By your reckoning then steel won’t rust underground? Ever dug a civil war bullet? All nice and oxidized underground.
