Looking good Jack, first entry pipe I did was a pretty straight forward shape like yours and it took me at least 6 hours, could have been closer to 10 hours. But, like yours, it came out pretty good.

Thanks! I'm proud of these little pipes. I made them from sheet brass, my first time making them. It takes time to do it right doesn't it!

I spent some time over at Jeff's shop today. He showed me how to cut out the patch box. He stressed that it is important to select a piece of wood with matching grain and curl. There was several scraps from the stock blank. We picked one with curl going in the same direction.

The pattern Jeff created.

I cut out the piece on the band saw.

We got it far enough to where I can finish the dove tail back at my shop.

We set the patch box aside and worked on the muzzle cap. Jeff taught me how to mark the wood, cut it and fit it.

It's almost on, just needs to be butted up tight. I'll finish it in my shop.

Good progress today!! Will you drill out most of the patch box then clean up the lines with chisel?
Thanks! It is exciting to see the muzzle cap on there. Looks kinda like a rifle now lol!

I assume so but I'll learn more on "how to" when I get back over to Jeff's shop. He sent me away with some home work, finish the lid, shape the rest of the butt, make the area flat where the patch box goes etc.

Looking good Jack, I am a bit jealous of your situation having a really good builder to go to, I am glad to see you are able to do that.
