I got a start on shaping the forestock. A lot more wood will come off. This is just the first step to create the basic shape.
Planing the lower part down to the ramrod channel.

Thanks Mike. It just wouldn't seem right to make an Albrecht with a 2 piece lid. I hope I can pull it offOne piece box, very impressive.

It’s coming along!! You patch box cover angle notches look good!! It took me a minute of looking at the first pic with the file to figure out what was going on!! The second pic didn’t load for a minute. When it did I was les confused!!

Since my last post I went over to Jeff's shop. He showed me how to layout the patch box, and some more areas on the stock to work on shaping. Today in my shop I worked on the forestock, the cheek piece, and rounding the edges of the butt plate where it meets the wood.
Jeff emphasized that the edges of the butt plate are too flat and need rounding

Here's a pic after I thinned the forestock and I've sketched in the basic carving (which will be fine tuned) so I could get the front and rear of the cheek piece curves right
The basic shape of the Forestock forward of the entry thimble is almost good. The Forearm is next!

More progress shaping the stock today.
Using scrapers to shape underneath the lock.
I made several half hexagon blocks so I can clamp the forestock in the vise. With the little block in the barrel channel and a 3/8" piece of scrap hickory ramrod in the ramrod channel to avoid damage. This is a trick Jeff taught me.

Making rivets, drilling and pinning the muzzle cap today.
The rivet is made from a piece of electrical wire.
A slight counter sink is done on the inside so the rivet sits flush but should also touch the barrel.

I worked on the Albrecht today. After closer study of the original patch box lid Jeff and I realized that it doesn't have a step on the tip and the one I was working on was a little to wide. Today I planed the edges down and redid the dove tails.
Something pretty cool you can buy a practice stock from Jim Kibler for $70. I ordered a fancy maple Colonial stock. This is going to be very handy for carving practice, wire inlay practice, testing stain, oils, etc. and it's similar to the architecture of my build so very useful when shaping the stock. When I compared my stock to it my lock panels and cheek piece angles look almost the same.
I also spent a few hours making some holders for my ever growing collection of tools. I found some harbor freight little crates laying around the shop that worked great as file holders.
