Some progress on the patch box today. The one piece lid had some gaps I couldn't live with so I turned it into a two piece lid. No gaps now papa is happy!

Some scrap brass. I need a small piece to make the plate for the back of the lid.

Tomorrow I'll clean up the inside of the box, cut the butt plate and shape the lid. Who knows I might have this gun done in time for spring nationals!

Well.... You know how this stuff goes. I ended up cutting the dove tail off and making a two piece lid. I found that much easier to get it nice and flat. One day I'll master the one piece lid.

It will never warp or cup that way, too.

I find that if dovetail the front edge too it tends to pull the lid down when it is closed and covers any gaps or looseness.

I have done both. I find the 2-piece to be infinitely easier.

Thanks for sharing your build every step of the way. It's really helpful seeing some of the tools for various steps that I didn't have tools for. I'll be looking back to this thread when starting my next rifle .

Right with a slight countersink.
