A friend wanted a fringed possible bag for his flinter so I made him this bag out of deer hide. It came out pretty nice and just need to finish the buckle on it.

And Roy put an order in for one of my "Swamp pouches" like RC'S, just need to stain it now and put a button on the flap.

Did you use deer hide for the straps, too?

It was very informative to see how you added the welt for the fringe on the flap. I'd have never thought to notch it that way, so a straight piece of leather could be used around a curved flap.

What sort of stain do you use to get the dark color?

I had some thicker leather that is just about the same color I used for the straps. I thought the deer hide was to stretchy to use for the straps. I think in the future I might try stitching two pieces together, making a double thickness of deer hide, for a strap and see how that is. For now I'll use up this thicker stuff.

I had stop and think about the fringed welt, then it hit me, why don't I just do this...it worked nice.

I used lol, Danglers Reddish Brown stain on the deer leather which is originally grey. Then I rubbed it down with Fiebings Antique finish, Dark Brown.

I only use the Fiebings Antique finish, Dark Brown on the Elk leather bags/pouches.

Roys pouch after the Fiebings,

I decided to make the button for your pouch out of Mammoth Ivory. Had to work around a couple of cracks but it came out pretty good. Got some True oil on it now to seal it.

Here ya go, the button will mellow with age just like Ivory does. I'll see if I can't get it in the mail tomorrow for ya.

I hesitate to be critical, the leather, color, construction, and shape, are all really great, but I think it would look a lot better with thinner cut fringe. Looks like you could get two, or three to each piece.

I never made anything with fringe before and wasn't sure how wide to make them. Made these 3/16" and thought that looked good. That would be concidered to wide? Don't mind learning at all, so I'll cut these thinner then when I get a chance. Thanks Wick.

SwampRat, I think like Wicke does, if they were a little thinner it would do your work justice. Other than that, I'd be proud to have one  ...Bud

shhhhhhhh! don't tell anyone, but I like my bag better
