John if you look in Logans UH book fig. 19 the sketch of the Kendall shows that the back of the hammer has what appears to be a stirrup fitted into the back of the hammer similiar to those if it had a lift spring instead of a pressure spring but it is hard to see in the pic if there is a pin holding that rasied part up or if it is just a hump

If you look closer, that style is a pusher.....the part you are talking about is a pivoting link, that is being pushed by the mainspring.

Same as fig. 20 only different style link. :)

Amen brother! :hmm: At $70 a copy ... wow~! :cursing: You better let us borry two of them!

Davy

If your interested in the book and don't want to pay that price I suggest checking Bookfinder.com

I see one currently at $43.44.

Hey Musketman, you interested in adding www.bookfinder.com to the links list?

I don't have the book and I don't know where I got the picture, probably from an early post. I'm not sure if I will use a roller or not on mine.

Davy I like the the other too , more than the outside spring, but had trouble getting anyone to make one, soooooooo. I got H+A frames and parts, and the big target rifles use the outside spring as did the better underhammers target rifles of the 1800s. And they have a lot less parts. Fred :hatsoff:

Here's Fred's action and another. Fred's is the one on the left and has the upper tang lowered to allow the sights to line up better.

If you can inlet the wood I sent too with a ram rod channel like the H&A's? I'm still waiting for my .50, 32" barrel to come in so I can come down and visit with a bunch of barrels. :v

I would likem a whole lot better iffin they were in my hot little monkey paws! :hmm: :rotf:

Davy

The one on the right will be sporting the old T/C sight that they discontinued. The one that looks like the Sharps tang sights. :v I'll be putting a globe sight on the front. This will be a fast twist .45 for some long distance shooting. I'm hoping to use 400 plus grain bullets. :hatsoff:

Edit: I forgot to mention it's going to sport a round barrel to match the actions look.

Ya we messed up GMWW if you had got a slow twist barrel you could of just got my short Sharps barrel on the left, it throws a 50 cal 500 grain slug real far real straight out to 500 yards. :rotf: and hits like a ton of bricks. Now lets let John get to work on some realllly neat stuff   oh Ive got a idea or two, did you look up that back sight thats on the left? Fred :hatsoff: (now what are you going to do with those far throwing heavy lead guns ? And adding a 45 too no less. to John. + many thanks.

I like the sight you got there. Where'd you find it? And how do you do windage?

For the far throwing guns, I hope to reach out and touch a critter or two with say a 450 to 500 grn bullet. :hatsoff:

Drive the front sight one way or the other for windage. Rear sight just goes up or down. I got a customer that wants me to make some rear tang sights with a rack and pinion gear. Another fun project.

John ..A rack and what! I got a old Pinto around here someplace if ya need some parts :rotf: Fred :hatsoff:

I subscribe to a Yahoo group of Long range Muzzle loading. Here is a cut and paste I found interesting.

"With the present day interest in shooting the old muzzle-loading guns it
should not be too surprising to again see examples of the Underhammer rifles
on the Firing line.. . . The Underhammer Target Rifles are indeed being
produced once again, and, within the very shadow of the noted Hilliard's
gunshop. Located at West Lebanon, N. H., along the Connecticut River is the
shop of Ray Mitchell. Here are being produced some splendid rifles based on
H. H. Hilliard style and tradition."

Anyone have information on Ray Mitchells shop? I'd like to see one of his Underhammers! :hmm:

I tryed CofC no answer yet. The town is 12,000 strong cant be to hard to find, copy and paste the underhammer target rifle on your search and i came up with a bunch even on here. Fred :hatsoff: thats funny I cant find "the stuff for sale on here anymore that was on the front "old" page".

I got thia a while ago Mitchell’s Gun Shop used to be located on East Wilder Road off Route #10 in West Lebanon. I believed that he died and the shop is closed. Maybe Welch’s Gun Shop here in Lebanon might be able to help you their phone number is (603) 448-3644. Sorry GMWW. :( FRED :hatsoff:

How are you guys coming along with your underhammers ? Any pictures of finished guns ?

Well Fred's is done but I didn't get to see it before it got sent off. Mine is still waiting on the to do list with John. John's a pretty busy guy but his work is worth the wait. I will post more photos once I get it back from him. I'll still have to shape, finish the stock and finish the metal. :hatsoff:
