gmww's new barrel is a fast twist 45 with rifling groove about .006 deep. It should work great with a 45-70 type bullet. I got it long enough to make a bullet sizer out of a couple inches of it. I do have in my pile of barrels a fast twist 62 caliber with a 1 in 24 twist and 1.375 OD that is about 28" long. It could be made octagon and may clean up at 1.2 across the flats. It's up for sale for anyone that wants to make something that will kill at both ends ( big recoil ).
Today being the forth, I'm going to send up a few bowling balls and see if I can keep them on my property.

The left will be for an 1.1/8 diameter barrel, the right on is nearly finished, for a 1" barrel...........probably a 58cal.

The 1.1/8 is for a new barrel I acquired, a swamped .62 x 32" and a future 69 slow twist tapered to 1".

John: You have a bowling ball mortar? Very cool, especially if you CAN keep the balls inside your property.

Here is John's 4th of July celebration device. I wonder if he can make it an underhammer?

Happy 4th of July all!

BS:That's such a nice design. Can't remember, are you using a mill, or just hand tools?

GMWW: John's firecracker oughta get the neighborhood's attention, especially when the wind screams in the holes in that bowling ball. Sounds like the gates of hell have been opened, if you ask me!

The ellevation screw is not on this one so the barrel can be pointed both ways, fuse on top or bottom. can be an underhammer or overhammer if I make up a lock for it. The fun part is going to be keeping the ball on my own property. Got to point it away from the house a bit to keep the wife happy and make sure the neighbor does not have a cow close to the fence. If I get a cow the BBQ will be fired up already so might as well invite more people over.

That's what happens when you get over........ah....can't remember...........

Mill

My baby Coehorn would fit in that barrel, but enough powder and a load of firecrackers of all kinds it really makes the kids go wild( 4sec fuse with a juice can with what ever firworks looks great way up high) Fred :hatsoff:

Well we sent a few balls up and I learned something about my mortar. We started with a light load of 200 grains of 1F and the ball only went about 100 feet up. Next I grabbed a can of 3F and doubled the charge and what a differance. It was still on the property but went much higher. I angled the bore up a little more to see if we could go a little higher and stay on the property. We then put 600 of 3F in and it almost went out of sight. I need to go on the neighbors property today and see if I can find the ball in a deep hole. I think this is the first time I ever tried 3F and it seem to do much better than 2F or 1F.

Here is a novel idea for a underhammer. There are a few more pictures if you do a google search. This would be a fun project.
Cane gun

If someone wanted to make a neat gun of this style a good place to start would be an old damascus shotgun barrel that you could salvage from an antique, it would already be the right shape with the taper. Breech it in a similar fashion to the way that Brockway does and extend the plug out to fit the action works into, I think if the barrel was etched and blued and the receiver color case hardened you would have a real fancy piece.

thats nice but Davy Pmd me this one and I about pppppd my pants :rotf: Thought you would like to see this underhammer
http://www.aaawt.com/html/firearms/f240.html now that is a underhammer, why aint I rich and ... Fred :hatsoff:

Now that's a pretty rifle right there. How does that work with the triggerguard instead of the spring for the hammer? Anybody have a drawing of how this works?

It is a beauty! I am looking for anyone who may have
a schematic of the internals myself.
I think Fred has one if we can squeeze
it out of him! :hmm: :rotf:
