I did a test run with a great little .75 musketoon I picked up from Greg Christian. It's a fine sparker and lots of fun, but all I had to test it with were some old .69 roundballs. These were undersized, and would slip past the patches on loading sometimes. One shot seemed to miss the target completely. Only on reviewing my tapes did I see why...

Ya know, I've missed several deer in my life, and now I know why :hmm: . Thanks for the excus....I mean proven scientific explaination. Bill

Of course, when you look at it from the eh UP side ... you can re-use that ball as often as you like! Now that is an economical solution for reducing the overall costs of our beloved hobby! :hmm:

Same thing happened to me once. Except I was about 10 and in the thick of a BB gun fight (anyone remember those?).

The little wire thingy on the inner "barrel" that holds the BB in place for firing was long gone, and if you pointed the barrel down before shooting, the BB would roll out.

Got real involved in stalking this guy and kinda forgot the BB roll. Got real close, jumped up and yelled and took my shot.

Man-o-man-o-man. Could he ever shoot fast and accurate. Dinged my hide many a time before I managed to get outa range and regroup! :rotf:

The roundball had perfect comedic timing, like a Warner Bros. cartoon.

In light of this episode, I just put an order into Track for some .715" which should be ideal with pillow ticking. This is a great and very portable piece. Not sure what to do about the total lack of sights. I guess I have to use the force. I'll be happy if I can get it to group 4" at 25 yards and pattern well enough to knock a squirrel out of the tree. With buck and ball it would make a creditable bear gun for the trail, assuming the ball doesn't roll out again. The barrel is very thick--almost like a small mortar.

OMG that is way too funny. thank you for the laugh. It is good that you have the sense of humor to share it with others.

I have an ongoing joke with my uncle pertaining to this same subject. Back in the 70's, I took my T/C deer hunting when everybody else was using modern rifles. I got quite a razzing about it. One night my uncle asks me how fast I could point that "thing" downhill and shoot. I told him "fast enough I guess". He says "The reason I ask is because in the morning I want you to get on the top of that bluff, and I'll walk around and run some deer under you, so I'm just wondering if you can aim at some deer with that thing pointed down, and shoot, before the ball rolls out of the barrel". He was dead serious, and now I wonder if he really knew what he was talking about. :rotf: Bill
