My Kibler Colonial Rifle is completed

You have done very, very well! Did you order upgraded wood? I have read that their ordinary grade is nicer than a lot of fancy.

Thanks! I did order the Fancy grade of wood I believe. It was the first upgrade. I like the look of it. If I had more experience with the iron nitrate and maple I probably could have brought the curl out a little more.

I final got everything put together today. I am very happy with the way everything turned out. It was my first build so I did make some mistakes but it guess it just makes it mine. Anyway, I thought I would post some pics of it finished. Thanks for all the advice and encouragement along the way. I learned a lot and my next one will turn out better. I am planning on using this rifle for some colonial period reenacting so I didn't give it a ton of aging. My goal was to make it look like a 15 year old rifle that was taken care of when you know your survival counted on it. Wow! Beautiful! I've never done any carving but am considering something like what you've done. What "level" of wood did you order with your kit, Fancy Maple or Extra Fancy?

Thanks! I have never carved before either. This is what my skills allowed me to do. When you start thinking about taking sharp tools to your stock it is a little frightening. There is a lot to learn when it comes to relief carving. This was my biggest delay in building my gun. I wood is the first upgrade, I think the fancy level.

Thanks! It is a 50 caliber. All my buddies and family that shoot blackpowder have 50s so it seemed like the thing to get. I would like to get involved in some of the shoots so I am sure as I gain experience I will learn what is best for that.

Thank you everyone for all the support! I had a great time building this rifle and I look forward to shooting it. There is so much knowledge that flows in this forum. It is a big part of why I was able to complete this rifle and have it turn out as well as it did. I learned a lot throughout the process and had so much fun doing it. This was my first build but definitely not my last.
