Just got a couple Aces , any one shoot a bare ball with a wad in these? I know its only good for about 5 yards

There's a few posts on here on the subject of the pistol.
Dixie Gun Works, Inc recommends using a .440 diameter ball with a .015 patch over 12 grains of 3Fg but, using a bare ball with a wad over the top of it to keep it in place would probably work just as well.
Your 5 yard guess about the range is probably about right for a max distance. These little guns and others like it were made for shooting across the card table or for My-lady to carry in her hand muff while she is out walking. Imagine the surprise as the ruffian accosts the lady only to find she has pulled her little Ace like pistol out of the hand muff she had, had her hands in and is now pointing it right between his eyes at a range of 3 feet.
