In my pawn shop travels I picked up a brass shot flask that the measure on the spout is in drams, the store owner gave me a ton of unmentionable type paper hulled stuff that he’s afraid to use so I think I’m able to break those apart for their shot. What about the old felt wads ? Can they be ran through this muzzle loader?
Congratulations on your purchase.
There is very good chance the wads in the cartridges you are going to recycle will fit your barrels. Just don't think you need as much as is possibly inside a cartridge. Most wadding in a cartridge is just space filling! So, you may be able to save some by cutting in half etc.
In a pinch you can simply roll balls of brown paper to form a wad.
BUT! If you shoot in a fire risk area avoid rolled paper wadding. It can smoulder after shooting!

Anywhere around 70gns under 1-1&1/4oz will be useful.
Have fun.

Maybe not but has worked well for me since a teenager. I like how it seems to speed up cleaning with the use of Ballistiol I have noticed no problem with flash rusting either
I always use close to boiled water after a wet wipe type of disposable kitchen wipe has been rodded.
Dissolves the caustic salts and dries the tubes a treat. Hold with a thick hand towel.

How does cleaning one of these differ from a muzzle loading rifle? Can I use a kit for modern or do I need to wait till track of the wolf order shows up? I use dawn and hot water then flush with hot water dry and oil on others and check in a day or 2 maybe add a little oil anti seize nipple threads and store
The shotgun has two barrels, so its like cleaning two hooked breech barrels at the same time. You will prefer having a jag that cleans all the way to the breech face and if your shotgun has chambered breeches can get a brush into the chambered breech. Pipe cleaners to clean from the nipple seat to the powder chamber. You also have two locks to clean. Other than the doubling up, its no different than a muzzle loading rifle.

Remembered the hard way about the towel or anything else to prevent burning hands lol

Hot water is what I would recommend. It's what I use every time I clean. I take the barrels off put the nipple end in a tub of hot water and pump a swab up and down through the barrels till I get clear coming out of the nipples. It's also good to use a brush to loosen some of the harder deposits. Looks like you got a really nice shotgun. Congratulations!

I've had a gun like that since 1982-83 and have always been very pleased with it. The drop and trigger pull are just what I need. Shouldered quickly it lines up right on the bead for me. I've had very good results hunting bumped rabbits and passing doves with it.

I have no idea about a reasonable value for the gun in today's world.

Hi Spence
The gun in the picture you posted is a Pedersoli I believe. World of difference in quality. The Pedersoli has machined steel lock internals and the Pietta has pot metal bridles that will more than likely break . Good news is the Pedersoli bridles are the same dimensionally and fit. I know, I went thru it. Cost close to $100.00 for parts from VTI.

This is not to start a bashing of Pietta or a war between Pedersoli and Pietta. just fact. Other than that the Pietta is ok and will get the job done . Since I have both I just think the Pedersoli is a better gun. Too bad they want a small fortune for their stuff these days.

Believing doesn't make it so.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, why would you think I could be mistaken about the brand of a gun I've owned and shot for more than 35 years?

The sling swivels on the shotgun are original equipment. I have two and they both have sling swivels.

True thing - in Europe, NOT UK [shudder] - shotgunners usually have some kind of sling, either loosely attached by looping around the forward end of the barrels, or as in this case of this Italian shotgun, proper sling swivels.

Just saw the checkering is all and never gave it much thought. My Pietta is pretty plain Jane and my Pedersoli is a lot snazzier with checkering. My Pietta stock looks like they took a 2X6 and sanded it a bit. It would be easy to post the wrong picture. I have pictures of a lot of guns on my computer. Didn’t intend to mean like you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Navy Arms once upon a time offered their plain jane 12 gauge with a set of the 14" as well as 28" double barrels. Real hard to find if such things are of interest.
Yeah, this is the one I have! Guess they made a couple of versions. Pedersoli made a couple also. One is heavier than the other. I have the lightweight one (s)—a 12 and a 10. Don’t want to load up that 10 too much!

I bet a ten really “talks” to ya

Right now I’m gathering components to be able to take it out and see what she’s made of. Anyone know anywhere to get musket nipples that will fit? I have a bunch of musket caps
