I have not read this entire thread, but enough to know the problem.I experianced much
the same thing a couple of years ago with an
Investarms .50cal Hawken.Someone on here suggested switching to magnum caps,make sure they are well seated on the nipple and lightly tap
the butt of the rifle on the ground prior to
firing. I have followed these tips and have never
had a consistant problem since.I have a misfire
on occasion which in most cases is due to me,not
my rifle.BTW I only use real blackpowder,95% of the time Goex.

If you wet patch between shots you may be using too wet a patch. That would allow for too much moisture and a wet the powder and perhaps cause a minor blockage of the spark once the cap went off. I took it to mean the cap fired but the powder did not.
