need help id'ing a caplock double shotgun

have had no luck identifying a percussion shotgun i am looking at to buy. only have a few pictures with no makers marks visible. my eyes are rolling back in my head from every obscure web site so i came to the experts. hopefully i can figure out posting pics.

German or Austrian by the style. Must have been a high dollar shotgun in its day.

that's as far as i can get without having my sweaty hands on it. as clean as the barrels are and the rest i am slightly suspicious of it. would sure like to knock over a big Tom with it though. that inlaid cartouche between the Barrels has to stand for something but i sure haven't found it yet. have been to the little sign that says "you have reached the end of the information highway, now turn and go back" and still haven't nailed this gun down.

AFAIK, gold cartouches like that were usually on guns made for European royalty...….. although similar designs were used much later in England & Australia for shooting organizations.

Baader in Munchen - either the dealer who sold it or the company who made it. By law it should have Bavarian state proof marks on it, probably under the barrels if you can take them off. This gun was mostly likely made before the 1891 Proof Laws were enacted in 1892. It is a very high quality piece.

yes it would. it is in Virginia and I'm in Idaho. sweaty palms itching to get wrapped around it. April 15 turkey opens.

That's a beauty.
I had the same thoughts about taking a turkey this spring with the shotgun I acquired this winter, but the left hammer spur snapped off Saturday. Good luck with yours. 12 gauge? I found the 80-80 load works great. 80 grains of ffg powder under the same volume number 6 shot.

yes 12 . not mine until i get my sweaty hands on it. still in the foreplay stage. won't be for this turkey season, but will give me something to live for, at least another year.

Are suspicious of the gun or the seller? The gun looks very nice and of good quality, you might ask him to drop a small AAA flashlight down the bore and take some pictures and if there is little pitting it should be fine. These fine old shotguns do not get the respect that old rifles do and it's a shame they don't because in many cases they shoot just well.
