Only fired 10 rnds my New Englander to dial it in. 2nd time out took 2nd place in compitition.

These are very nice rifles and I like them better than the T/C Hawken.

So do i.

There is one thing i don't like about the New Englander gun. The same goes for the Renegade and Hawken.

Methinks the TC sights are abysmal. One of my .50 New Englander barrels has Remington center fire rifle sights; the front sight is an ivory bead. My old eyes see those sights much better.

I’m using round balls, patch and about 80 gr pyrodex from a table bench on my back porch. Rest seems solid but not perfect. Occasionally I get a couple tighjt shots but never all 3. Can’t seem to even b consistent enough to fiddle with the sights. What peep sights work well for hunting with the New England 54 cal

Would like to switch to peep sight but don’t know which is best. Nice gun

Keep working with that rifle, it is capable of very good accuracy. What type of rest are you using?

So far as i know no one makes a proper peep sight for the New Englander. This is my New Englander re-bored to .58 caliber. Improvised and put the Williams peep designed for the Renegade and Hawken on that gun; it looks trashy but works well. It requires drilling and tapping a hole in the tang. If your rifle has a wood stock it may be necessary to relieve the wood on the left side for the slide.

Last Sunday i took my .50 caliber New Englander to the range.

Firing was at exactly 50 yards using a 6 o'clock hold. Wind was blowing left to right at 10 mph with gusts to over 15 mph. Rifle had been loaded since October: First round the patch tore and the ball went low and left just off the yellow paper. Fired three more rounds using PRB and 90 grains of Black MZ powder. They made a decent group, right and high.

Lowered the sight one notch and dropped the powder charge to 80 grains. One ball hit the bull and another landed directly below. Third ball went wild to the left just off the yellow paper. Methinks the patch blew out, but i couldn't find it.

Never swabbed between shots.

I'm looking forward to getting my rifle out and putting rounds on paper. As with other T/C rifles I've owned, it should do pretty good if I do my part. And I bet those 'yotes never new what hit them when the trigger was pulled!

You are right. They never saw me. The load was 70 grains FFFg Goex and a .495 ball and .015 patch. That is what this rifle liked. The shotgun was 80gr. of ffg and about 1 1/8 oz. of 7.5 shot.

Years ago had a .54 New Englander with the QLA muzzle that made me crazy. Fixed that by having a .458 bore diameter sleeve added to the barrel and putting the TC peep on it.

Been thinking I'd like to have one with a longer barrel. Maybe.

Enjoy yours. Looks to be in very nice condition.
I had a few over the years and of course regrettably sold or traded them off. Had the 12g shotgun model :( now long gone. I even built a NE kit gun. Had the synthetic stock model and the stainless synthetic model Grey Hawk model.
Now I’m only rocking the TC Treehawk 12g with removable chokes. I’ll hold on to this puppy as all TC sidelocks are getting rarer and rarer. Well atleast up here in Canada.
Like I said. You got yourself a dandy no frills front stuffer! Enjoy 👍🏼
