Dragged a caplock to the range today for the first time in a year and a half...was a good change of pace from 100% Flintlock shooting.
TC Hawken, 1:66", 50grns Goex 3F, .018" pillow ticking prelued NL1000, .490 Cheapshot balls, CCI#11 Magnum caps, 50yds simulating a tree stand seat, 50 balls, 50 dead bucks !!

A range session with a caplock finishes in no time...powder, patch, ball, cap, shoot...no wipe...powder, patch, ball, cap, shoot...I wasn't hurrying but was easily averaging a shot a minute...done in less than an hour.
A great morning...so am I going to sell my caplocks yet?.........nahhhhhh........gonna shoot the .54cal tomorrow!

Thanks...I've been lucky to find some pretty stocks over the years...the sun makes those amber areas (tiger's eyes?) just glow when it hits them...it's an older (20+yrs?) stock with an LOP of 14.75"...but the lock & .50cal 1:66" TC R/B barrel are practically brand new...the 50 target loads I shot through it today are probably about as much as it's had fired through it in it's life...all I ever did was zero it at 50yds back in the early 90's, shot a few deer, and it's mostly laid oiled in it's case since...it's a keeper for sure.

Like the old song said:

After you've been having steak for a long time,
Beans, beans taste fine!
And after you've been drinking champagne and brandy,
You'll come to settle for wine.
Now the World is funny, and people are strange
And man is a creature of constant change,
And after you've been havin steak for a long time,
Beans, beans taste fine!

Roundball,

I would swear you said you swore off caplaocks. Well with such a pretty rifle to tempt you, I can see why you would backslide.

I'd like to help you out though, so why don't you send me that rifle so that it won't be there to tempt you any more. Remember, friends don't let friends shoot caplocks (or something like that). So redeem yourself while you still can. PM me for the shipping adress and I'll keep temptation safely away from you.

Jim, it's sure nice to know there are still people in the world willing to help another without any self serving motivation...
:rotf: :rotf:

Did a repeat range trip this morning with the .54cal caplock...life is good!

Zonie, what song is that from? I thought I had heard all the songs about "beans". You know that they are "good for the heart". Oh , that is a song of a different color. :rotf:

Sure your not thinking of the one that goes something like...

"Beans, beans the musical fruit. Makes your pants go rooty-toot-toot"...

Nice looking and shootin' capper there roundball.

shantheman: Although I think your question was somewhat tongue in cheek, Beans Taste Fine was sung by The Brothers Four, a Folk group back in about 1964, when Folk groups were popular.

The song was written by Shel Silverstein, a Playboy humorist back in those days and is included in the album THE BROTHERS FOUR SING OF OUR TIMES (Columbia Records).

For those interested, the words are;

(spoken)
Now a friend of mine, out of Chicago, he finally made his pile.
He got himself a mansion, and butler and a Chief, he was living in the latest style.
Well one day I ran into him at a greasy spoon,
And parked out in front was his big limousine,
And I said buddy, if you got so much money,
How come your in here eating beans?
And he said:

(chorus)
After you've been having steak for a long time,
Beans, beans taste fine!
And after you've been drinking champagne and brandy,
Your gonna settle for wine.
Now the World is funny, and people are strange
And man is a creature of constant change,
And after you've been havin steak for a long time,
Beans, beans taste fine!

Well, I ran into another friend of mine
In a roudy old Park Street bar.
And I said, friend, is it true what I heard about you?
I heard you married a beautiful 18 year old shapely movie star,
And yet here you sit, trying to make out with a barfly, who's to old and ugly to be true!
and he said Felix, your a very young man,
So sit down and I'll explain it all to you.
He said;
(Chorus)
