Back in the '70's, I was in grad school. And grad school was winning. I needed hobby, a pastime, anything that could give me a few hours away from the books. Having grown up in a firearms-friendly family, I decided to order a CVA .50 kit. It took me some months to finish the kit properly, but I did. That gun turned out to be a pretty good shooter, as I recall. I was moving from one state to New York, and while I was moving my things from one house to another, my CVA Hawken was stolen from my old house.
Well, I was moving to New York, and I was pretty sure opportunities to shoot would be rare, so I didn't try to replace it.
Long story short (now he tells us!), I have retired and I am looking to reconnect with black powder. I still have a .44 revolver (not a great shooter, as I recall), and am looking for a place within an hour's drive or so from northern Westchester County where I can shoot, and will be looking to replace that old Hawken with a pretty good shooter.
Anyway, I came across this site, took a long look, and am very happy with the content here. The members seem to be nice and helpful, and I am sure that you all will be very happy to help me regain what little knowledge I have of this sport.
Thanks.
