Nathan, your taste in arms and mine are very close indeed, I even think the lock is on the correct side. I particularly like the dark stain of that pretty maple stock. Much better than the reddish tones Matt seems to use so often. You have shot and owned other Lemans how do you like the stock configuration with that narrow butt plate for recoil with elk loads? I'm thinking not an issue for you.

Morning Snow.
Yes you do feel the recoil a bit more compaired to say my Early Virginia but for off hand shooting and all day carrying in the mountains (great balance)IMHO there is no better rifle.

What do your patches look like after?

What is a .020 Texas patch?

Why an .020?

All my barrels have deep grooves and I have found the best accuracy is acheved with thick patches.
my Greenmtnbarrels have .012 deep grooves so I shoot a .030 or a .028 canvas patch.
But the grooves in the Rice barrels come in at .010 so I have found that a .020 patch gave me the best accuracy.
Texas Patching is a company who sells teflon coated patch material.
I no longer shoot a teflon or dry patch so I order my patch material virgin(void of lube) and apply my elk tallow marmot oil lube as well as my merphy oil Ballistol wet lube for off hand shooting and general site in.

A very nice gun and really good groups for so early in the game so to speak, looks like you have a winner there pard.

Morning T.G.
I speed up the shoot in time by hand lapping before I ever put ball one through it.
I have got over 100 round in that barrel tho.
:hatsoff:

Well, I'm as green as grass and have only learned that I don't know anything. :haha:

I'm going through all of this with my Pedersoli Pennsylvania .45.

The one thing I know for shore, is that I love a flintlock.

Never thought I'd love a gun, but man was I wrong.

Nice looking rifle and good shooting.I always liked the looks of the leman although I never have shot one. I'm guessing it would be similar to a Hawken with the cresent butt. Just wondering how easy it is to swap out the barrels? Thanks,Dew

Not bad at all, I had Matt from TVM put in over size pins.

I'm liking it!

"Offhand rested"? Which was it? That's an either/or

I finish my site in period by shooting in my off hand position with a rested barrel over sand bags
on my bench but you can do it over a truck as well.
I have found that my off hand position point of aim is a little different then bench rest.

Great looking and shooting rifle. I am thinking about ordering a Leman from TVM. What is the length of the barrel on your rifle?
