RMCOxyoke Co. makes one specifically for the new GOEX plastic cans. Here is the link: For 5.95 you can't go wrong.

For more than 40 years I have been using this 4 oz. can with the self closing pour spout on the range. It has had to be painted once to get rid of the crud look. Serves me well and keeps range officer happy. When it gets low I just refill from the 1 lb. can.

The Goex container is made up of a plastic called High Density Polyethylene Terephthalate, which can be coated or produced with (ESD) electro static discharge capabilities. Basically the container is conductive enough that static can't cling to the surface, in theory. Now the question is did Goex specify that property?

Yep, that was the report that I was thinking about. I thought I remembered it being a video but I am old and my rememberer is not in the best working condition. But, for those worried about static electricity igniting black powder, here is the answer.

Now, that is a dandy idea. I love it. I am going to have to keep my eyes open for a can like that with the correct lid size for my spout to fit on it. The thing I like about it is that it is less likely to get knocked over or off the loading bench than a regular 1 pound Goex can and it is compact and handier to carry to the bench.

BTW, do you remember what the can was originally used for?

'morning,

But what I tend to do is pour the powder into my old, tin, can. I'll store in the plastic, but the one I'm using, the tin fits so much better in my range box.

Calum

Exactly Calum!!! Heck I cut the base off a 30-30 case and epoxied it into a hole in a Goex lid and cap it with a .41 Mag case. No sense in throwing away a perfectly good lid, spout and cover and no need for ordering, buying, paying tax or freight. Just reuse and keep going.

By the way the plastic cans won't fit in my range box either without changing the organization I've used for over 30 years.

Goex is now owned by Hodgdon, so likey THEY spec'd the container material to be like that of their smokeless containers. Plastic doesn't rust, unlike tin-plated steel.

I work in the plastics industry. My specific job is mixing large batch raw product to recipe/client spec for extrusion,, there are several anti-static additives available added at a rate of 1.5-5% in an average 1000# batch.
Anti-static plastics have been available for 40+yrs now and have been in common and easily affordable use for the last 20yrs.
There is and has been science behind it all since plastic was thought of.
Customers can now select specific additives as easily as whether you want to use white sugar or brown to make cookies.

Like the guns we shoot, I just like the metal cans, because they remind me of times past.

 That's exactly why I have saved the last 7 cans I had. I keep them babies waxed too, so they'll never rust :shocked2:

Years ago I bought a bulk load of 3F. I didn't realize that meant that I got a plastic bag full of 25# of powder. So I had to scrounge metal cans from all my shooting buddies so I could empty the bag. That got me started on saving all my cans. So last year I bought another 25# bag of 3F and had plenty of cans. I just bought 10 # of 2F that came in the plastic cans. I quickly dumped the powder into more cans.

I liked that the new plastic cans sloped shoulders make it easy to get the very last grains out much easier than the metal ones. Since I go camping a lot with my muzzleloaders I like the idea of having "fire resistant" metal containers versus plastic ones in camp.

So since I have a bunch of metal cans, I'll keep using them. If you have them save them. They will quickly become collectible.

Who sells powder in bags these days? ?

Jim,

When the new plastic bottles arrive, I just simply pour them into the old GOEX metal cans and my world is back to center.

Now...about that waxing...just simple auto wax, just like you we're polishing your car?

Tnx!

You have to pick it up in person at your distributor.

There is a very large black powder distributor about 10 miles down the road. He ships nationwide and will ship up to the legal limit you can own in your state, often 60 lbs. His 5 pound lots are available in a plastic bag inside a brown paper bag with a rubber stamp on the outside with all the info including the lot number. It comes direct from GOEX packaged this way. If you want it in cans it is $1.00 extra per pound.

Zerox toner used to come in a nice plastic bottle that holds just under a pound and there was a screw on pour spout in every case. I have been using these bottles since 1980 and love them. I found them to be far handier than the cans though I still have a lot of cans which I still use.
