Just wanted to show off my new gun. I bought it from a member in the for sale forum. It is a Pedersoli 12 Gauge double barrel, choked full and modified and is unfired. ( I will change that status to "been shot a lot" this weekend.)
I spent the time while we sent money and gun back and forth, making a range rod, a shot horn, a shot measure, over shot cards, and buying up wads and over powder cards etc. I also found a .690 round ball mold and cast quite a few of those along with some .31 caliber buckshot. I will take it squirrel hunting this weekend and trust that it will pattern well without testing the loads. I probably should carry my little 32 caliber rifle, but I can't resist the urge to shoot this gun at some game. Besides, I make a great fired squirrel with gravy and biscuit.
A shooting buddy of mine and I will also shoot a round or two of trap at our club soon. He has an older Navy Arms double he wants to try out on the trap field. I told him that 50 rounds from a front stuffin" shotgun should keep us busy for most of the afternoon.
This will mostly be a small game, bird, and turkey gun but I do like the idea of playing with the round balls and the buckshot. I love having a new muzzleloader to experiment with.

I have one of those. It has never disappointed me in any way.

Mine is about 25 years old and has been on many hunts in past years. I bet you will enjoy that one.

I think you will find .690 round ball, and even buckshot, a tad harsh on squirrels. You might want to try #6 shot.

LOL I know what you meant..., it just reads funny.

Mine likes 1&1/4 ounce shot in a paper cartridge over a leather wad, over 75 grain FF. I think you are going to like yours once you get used to it. I have had mine since 1973

I found a nice #3 buckshot load for both barrels of mine. 90 gns 2f Goex, osc, one half of a olive oil soaked fiber wad, osc, thirty .250 (#3 buck), osc. I killed a decent doe at 50 paces, with it in December, and the improved cylinder barrel.

Nice shotgun. I'm sure you will have fun with it. I was given a brand new one in 1984. I hunted upland with it a couple of times. But back then I had gotten away from the black powder thing and foolishly I sold it. I've since made up for it though!!

I thank ya'll for the load advice. I am looking forward to trying this gun out with a variety of loads and projectiles. Weather and work have kept me from the range so far. I have busied myself with making some items like a range rod, paper cartridges filled with .31 caliber buckshot. Some .690 round balls, which fit perfectly in the modified barrel with a.010 patch. I also made a slanted shot dipper out of some coper tubing I had handy. I also made a short started, I don't know if it is needed but I had fun making it. I even found a .750 punch in the sop and punched out some over shot cards.

As a side, I don't really know if the .690 round balls and buckshot will be used afield but it would be nice knowing I can. I envision the modified barrel with a round ball and the full choke barrel with a load of buckshot, just in case. If nothing else it will be fun trying it.

Take care,

Mine works well with 00 buck and the modified tube.
