Our rondys have had a night time candle shoot where the shooter is required to "snuff" out the flame without actually hitting the candle. It has been good fun and competition. I am wondering if there are other types of fun, competitive and safe muzzleloading alternatives to the candle shoot? Any recommendations?

We do the same thing at our annual Rendezvous with snuffing the candle. We also have a candle lantern shoot where we post targets on each side of a candle lantern about a foot away from it... Two shooters then fire for record, 3 to 5 shots at their target.

Texikan,

I volunteer your lantern to illuminate the targets!! At least we'll find out who paid attention to the rules of the game

Sure, sure.......you don't need my lanterns. All you need is one of your daughter's "white woman's fire" over at the campsite and the range will be well LIT, WARM AND TOASTY!

She ain't called "Jules Burns" for nothing!

Yeh, I do! I had a belonged to a group in southwestern PA called the "Washington County Buckskinners Assoc.". You'all might not find'em ifin you red their banner. It reads, "Washington County Bucksinners Assoc." the makers o' da banner done did leaved the 'K' outa that thar banner sign. :shocking:
But, hennyways, We started us a "Midnight Tommyhawk Throw Blanket Match" at the Rendezvous. :front:
We placed the throwing block in the wide open so's no one would get kilt or nuttin like't. Placed a candle lantern 'bout 1 feet out each side and three feets in front. We did like usual. Three throws at a playing card. Hawk complete in Block- 1 pt; nick a card- 2 pts and cut card complete in 2 pieces- 3 points. All throwers signed in and placed prize on the blanket. No fees, but thrower had to be a registered competitor in camp. After round 1, If there was ties for first, second and or third, we held subsiquent rounds of throw offs to settle the finishers and place all competitors for the drawings from the blanket. All who weren't tied after round 1 drew cards for prize draw placing. We started registration at 11:30 and the first throw went in the air at 12:00 midnight by the boushways call. Great time was had by all. :applause:
The second year we done 'nounced that the "Midnight Tommyhawk Throw Blanket Match" would have the first throw at nine o'clock by the boushways moon timin'. The top dog says it's his middle o' the night,...an' what he says is law at the rendezvous. 'Em 'ere was some shinin' times. Eeehhhhaaaahh!
