• Friends, our 2nd Amendment rights are always under attack and the NRA has been a constant for decades in helping fight that fight.

We have partnered with the NRA to offer you a discount on membership and Muzzleloading Forum gets a small percentage too of each membership, so you are supporting both the NRA and us.

I was looking at the results of one of the surveys and I noticed that of those responding to the membership survey, only 37% of us belong to the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association. This is a wonderful organization and worthy of our consideration for membership. I would encourage those of you who are not currently members to join or renew your membership if you have allowed it to lapse. In the same way that NRA protects our rights under the Second Ammendment, NMLRA joins hand in hand to protect these rights as well as to ensure that our sport of muzzleloading continues. Please give serious consideration to becoming a member of NMLRA.

Have you read all the discussions about the NMLRA? Most of the members know about it - many don't like it.

Unfortunately in the micocosm of our own petty personal selfish self interests we oft times will sit idly by complaining about a "small particular" instead of looking out for the greater good.
As lead IS being baned and calibers ARE being restricted; As "lead posining" IS being regulated and guns in general ARE under attack some still find it convenient to stay segregated, watching an era pass (most likely for ever) complaining the whole way :shake:

Mountian Men are all but extinct for a reason and its NOT because the mountians are gone but due to an ignorant arrogance that prevents one from joining in for a greater cause....the enemy knows this....the enemy has won.

For the record I am a member os SEVERAL firearm, hunting, outdoor, fishing, "organizations". Most coast what $25.00 a year or so? I dont attend all the meeting or even most, I dont enjoy all the publications either and in fact just throw some away; BUT when THAT particular orgaization goes to lobby and they put down thier members list I am one of many providing some "weight" that CAN make a differance to some door-knob legistlater.
Its the EXACT same tactic that the hippies use to strip US of our heritage and rights.....It works.

Why do some people think that joining the NMLRA has any effect on the law? :shake:

Uh, the NMLRA is not a lobby organization, so joining this "club" won't effect firearm laws or influence politics, anymore than joining a small local club or this forum.

I have always found it wrong to own a weapon and not be a member of the NRA. Equally wrong if you are a Muzzleloader Owner and not a member of NMLRA.

I also find it wrong for a man that owns an AR-15 to say "I don't shoot a Muzzleloader, Its okay if they Ban them." and vice versa.

If you are a Member of a group, you are Counted. And the more number of members counted, the stronger the group. Stand up and be counted, its the Mountain Man Way.

Living as you do in Indiana, I can only assume that you are able to maintain close contact, participate, etc. etc.

For those of us in the hinterlands, the attitude from the NMLRA has routinely been come to Freindship, or don't bother us.

There is very little "National" about this organization.

Join the NMLRA. Join the NMLRA. Here we go again! I’m with Tkendrick on this one. I was a member of the NMLRA for 20+ years. I made it to Mecca (Friendship) Once. A 3 day drive for 3 days of shooting at Friendship. ( It wasn’t flooded that time.) I’m a life member of the NRA. I do not believe the NMLRA has the effect on law making the NRA has.
I have 20+ years of Muzzle Blasts (the NMLRA publication) and about the same amount of copies of Muzzleloader Magazine. I doubt if there is any thing new that Is addressed in the last 10 years in the Muzzle Blast that cannot be references in my resources (subject matter ~Traditional Muzzleloading,) thus I have no need for joining the NMLRA to get a magazine on muzzleloading.
Per Tkendrick’s quote “ For those in the hinterlands,”¦ Friendship, or don’t bother us.”
Yep that’s the attitude echoed for “decades” now. I look at it this way. If you live East of the Miss”¦ target Friendship for a yearly shoot. If West of the Miss.. head for Fort Bridger (Wyoming) Rendezvous.
For law making I’ll hang with the NRA, Gun Owners of America, and/or write the politicians myself. Never Give An Inch. And ~ I’ll Give Up My Gun/s When They Pry My Cold Dead Hands From It/Them.

well i was a member for about 10 years. then their policy and writing shifted from what i was interested in. they went on a flintlock is everything even made snide remarks about caplock shooting. so i voted with my money they no longer get it.

now don't take it wrong i do have 2 flintlocks and like shooting them.

Wow, I think the problem many have is that the NMLRA does NOT say "flintlock is everything", instead, focusing too much on "muzzleloader hunting"...almost invariably with a stainless steel, plastic stocked in-line...

The NMLRA sent representatives to the UN to testify against the UN international gun ban that the UN would like to stick down our throats. Sounds like lobbying to me.

And I can "testify" (give my two-cents) at my local city council meeting, but that doesn't make me a "lobbyist".

Since I don't recognize the UN, what have they done to actually lobby the US Government?

To look at it a different way, if those of us that disapprove of the direction the NMLRA is going, joined, we just might be able to turn things around.

This subject has been beat to death! :yakyak:

akapennypincher,

You are so correct and thank you.

Coming to Phoenix to shoot at your nice facility in Feb. 2009. I wish we had such a facility in Texas.

Would be nice to meet you and split a pizza and a beer or a soft drink.

Zonie, you are also invited along with those in the Phoenix area. Would be nice to meet those from your area.

My wife is coming, maybe we could have a group outing with spouses one evening, comments and thoughts from the Phoenix area?

Maybe they don't want to join and turn it around, because they simply don't care what happens to an organization they care nothing about? Not everyone is interested in saving the NMLRA from itself.

:surrender: Now I understand why my post about my sending a membership in the NMLRA to one of our soldiers fighting in Iraq was totally ignored in another section of this forum!?
Have any of you gents written to the NMLRA and told why you left and won't rejoin? Because the question has been raised many times in their publication. :shake:

This month I read another supportive paragraph for the MLF in Muzzleblasts. The NMLRA continues to offer positive support for this forum.

I support the NMLRA but I sense I am in the minority when I visit this website.

The future of traditonal muzzleloading will depend on interested participants pulling together for the overall benefit of the pastime.

BINGO....Devided we fall and we can LITTERALLY watch it happening ALL around us and yet petty self interest continue to allow it to happen untill it just wont matter anymore. And then who is the 1st to cry about the loss? :shake: :shake: :shake:
