An unfortunate announcement but there is no denying the steady decline of BP enthusiasts.

BP is used for other purposes like fireworks, certain explosive applications, starter pistol blank cartridges. Perhaps the total is not enough to justify rebuilding.

We still have the foreign sources. Perhaps a small scale niche producer will come on line in the USA to fill the small void. But expect niche prices too.

Well, that is a nice thought but it doesn't appear they are offering it for sale - at least they could have sold the name to a potential buyer but I doubt BP production is very profitable or they would probably not be closing the GOEX division.

I am 100% ok with paying closer to $30/lb for my BP, as long as I can get it.

I really like Goex OE and my last bulk purchase was a case of 3F. My supplier is out and I really hate the thought of it being gone for good as it is nearly identical to Swiss performance wise at a much better price.

It was not due to the decline, but to a fire and the parent company, a conglomerate, simply decided that the investment to replace the damaged portion of the plant outweighed the time necessary to recoup the money spent. There are two if not three companies making BP in Europe. Two costing more per pound than GOEX, yet they continue.

Indeed. I've made it a point to buy GOEX because I was worried about an import ban..., wanted to support the American business. So when I bought Graf & Sons in bulk for reenactment unit blanks (Graf's was once made in Germany) I always ordered some GOEX for personal use. I was quite happy when Graf & Sons switched over to GOEX to make their powder. I could then buy all from them!

I never considered a catastrophic fire at the GOEX site.

I didn’t really think about it but I’m the only black powder person I know. So I can see why from a business prospective they would drop it but like one other gent said he’d pay 30 dollars a pound for Goex knowing he could get it. It kind of has been a novelty item when you think about it. I’m surprised didn’t sell for more at least on the same price point that smokeless powder sells for like Swiss. But that would probably drive some away. Well let’s hope for the best.

Put one of your black powder weapons in the hands of a friend with disposable income, then you'll have a person you know that fires black powder weapons when he can't resist the temptation to get one of his own.

The first black powder I ever bought was probably around May, and that was what I paid for it then, too. I don't know of other places to get it, so there may be factors adding to the price in the area, such as regulatory or insurance costs. It could also be simply a matter of scarcity. One thing about it, though, is that a higher price keeps the stuff available.

I would imagine that nefarious actors would scoop it all up to sell at gun shows if it was cheaper.

That's not to say that I like paying what I pay for it. I am just thankful to have gotten some at all.

I sure wouldnt want to get caught selling it at a gunshow without the Explosives Dealers License required. Thats why you dont see it on dealers tables.
