I have always been a pack rat, which is a bonus in today's world. I have powder and caps that were given to me that cost me nothing, I have 500 Walmart caps that cost $5.85 a tin. I have powder that I paid $12 a pound shipped and some that I paid $30 a pound during the first part of the shortage when the Goex plant burned.

I am set for life but feel for people just getting into the sport. Greed from the suppliers can and will kill the sport for many, there is no reason for a single cap to cost as much as a ready to shoot 9mm round.

Here is my personal price gouging story; I was just starting out in life with a wife and a young son, I moved to Stevenson Al with my job, there was almost no rental property available. We lived in an old farm house out of town, down a one lane dead end road with a raised railroad track adjacent to the road.

We had a flood, followed by a terrible ice storm, the power was out, we were trapped in by the flood for two weeks, we got our water from a spring. I could walk a mile down the railroad track to high ground and get picked up to go to work or pick up supplies from Stevenson.

The local hardware store had Coleman white gas for 99cent a gallon(1974) before the storm and jacked its price up to $5 a gallon after the storm hit, everyone who lost power needed it. I had to buy it, but vowed that when things returned to normal, I would drive 50 miles for hardware before I ever spent another dime in his store.

Apparently, he price gouged one too many people and rubbed a bunch of us the wrong way, this store had been a fixture in downtown Stevenson for at least 20 years, his once very successful business went belly up within a couple of years after the storm.

Keep these price gouging cap sellers in mind down the road.

Found musket caps for $7.50 & have two .58 rifles that have interchangeable nipples (musket and #11). Regardless of the nuances of shooting percussion, my crippled hand really likes musket caps and my old eyes find them easier to find. Plus, at least $4.00 cheaper than the last #10 and #11's.

BTW = Remington Ammunition and CCI are owned by the same corporation.

Hey ya'll!
Cabelas DOES HAVE #10 Remington Caps!
I am here right now (Nevada) and they have just a few left BUT $12.98 per tin!
Grabbing a couple, at this price I won't hord!

They need to be listed and boycotted.

My local “hole in the wall” gun shop has CCI #10’s for $9.99 a tin and RWS 1075 plus for $41 per tin. I figure that $41 per tin wasn’t that bad considering I didn’t have to pay hazmat fees or shipping.

I only use real black, with these sites having free hazmat, it's a no brainer these days. Powder is easy to come by, caps...not so much. Fortunately I'm am good on cci standard and magnum. I just buy either interchangeable. I've not experienced any problems some that some alude to with cci. I've had very good luck.
Just bought #10 caps at Bass Pro $12.99

Ditto! When they are OTC at $2 per hundred I might buy some. The more I make the faster it gets and my own are hotter than any commercial caps I've used.
Unfortunately I just don't see a return to the earlier prices happening, I guess wishing doesn't cause any long term harm, I'm still wishing for 29 cents a gallon gasoline with no success.

You are 100% correct. Kinda my way of saying I'll not ever be buying them again! I remember .22 cent gas. Wife and I would fill up for $3 and spend the weekend running around the mountains.

Got an email today from Brownells...no Hazmat Fee for powder & primers, for a limited time! (they don't say when it ends)

ETA: they're already out of caps...bummer...

You have been around quite some time. Just saw a history of gas prices and 1955 was the last time the US price of gas averaged below $0.30.

I don't care for ethanol blended gasoline so am fortunate that our one gas station in town sells no-ethanol 91 octane gas. It was $4.04/gallon the other day, almost a buck higher than the ethanol junk but I like it just fine. I get better mileage and my vehicle seems to run better; not necessarily more power, just "better."
