I have come across an old axe quite similar to the " Mohawk Belt Axe " in the TOW catalogue, however it is somewhat larger and original, in good to excellent shape.
Could anyone tell me where I can find more information on this find.

If you found the axe in Canada then it is probably Canadian in manufacture or brought in from England. Checking out museums, etc in the States may not help. Carl P. Russell's book has a lot about axes and hatchets from the entire fur trade era. There is a tool museum in Davistown Maine that may help(search the web) and there is the Early American Industries Association (EAIA) in South Dartmouth, Mass. that may also help. There were also a lot of axes and hatchets turned out by local black smiths. If there are any markings, letters, stamps, etc- you can probably research the axe, otherwise the design would have to be rather unqiue to get any isea of its origin.
