My very first flintlock was one of these CVAs. I already had a TC Renegade percussion rifle, but I wanted to try out a flintlock and I figured at the price CVAs went for I couldn't go wrong. The main problem, as you mention, was the length of pull. The lock worked fine and it shot well enough, but it was way to short for me so I eventually traded it off.

The only time I ever saw one of those put together it was on "Little House on the Prairie" and it was Ingle's personal rifle. Even when others started toting lever actions he held onto that caplock .45 deer rifle.

In one episode he leaned it (loaded) against a tree. Guess what? You guessed it! It fell over and fired hitting him in the side and Laura had to run for help before he bled to death. :shocked2:

This is one of my favorite episodes, and here it is! Great acting and very realistic.

What a great episode I just watched it. I remebered bits and pieces of it Thank You. The trapper in the episode was played by Johnny Crawford. He was Mark McCain on "The Rifleman". Lucas' son. I am 58 years old. Shot just about every gun out there. I wouldn't trade my life nor this forum for anything. Thanks again. Those poor liberals are sure missing out a lot in life. It sucks to be them.

That same model rifle was the first muzzleoading rifle I owned as a kid. Shot great and I had lots of fun tromping around the woods with it. So much as I still have it although not shot in YEARS but none the less I don't believe I'll ever get rid of it.

A quick update on the rifle. That cheap little CVA lock is going great! It still has the same flint I used to semi-sight it in and find a decent load. My friend has been shooting it off and on for a month now on the same flint and it is still going off like it should. Wow is that thing easy on flints.
