I considered taking both as well but it’s just too much gear to carry that far. I really want to christen the muzzleloader and feel there’s more time for the crossbow. Only two days left for the muzzleloader, I don't have a good feeling about the after Christmas season, too many deer taken out of the population, too many posted properties for the deer to stay on and too few hunters in the woods to keep the deer active. I’ll give it a go if needed, just realistically assessing my options.Nice to see some success. Big Woods have been silent with very little animal sign of any sort. No bear, either. Tried predator calling with doe bleats yesterday. It was a nice hike up the mountain. For the afternoon sit today, I actually lugged both the 62 rifle and a crossbow into the hut, along with a range finder etc, and put out some doe pee. Called a few times over two hours, and gave up. Noticed two fresh scrapes on the trail to the hut that were not there yesterday. Don't know what I would have done if that big boy had stepped out on my way back to the cabin, because I felt like a clown in a juggling act with all the kit and caboodle hanging off of me and weighing down my arms...sometimes I just have to tell myself that I tried.
Thanks, yea finally with this gun. I’ve hunted a lot of squirrels with it but always frustrated come deer season. I’m glad that’s done, I really like carrying it in the woods.Congrats!!! You "made meat"!
