I’m loading for my new 45 cal flintlocks (rifle and pistol) and find these pre-cut patches a little big.

So, for you guys who “cut yer own” what tool do you use?

Thanks!!
When I use patches and cut my own, I cut them at the muzzle with my belt knife.

If they are already cut into squares I would use scissors and maybe just clip the corners.

I use pillow ticking as patch material. I cut it into strips, 1.5” wide and a yard in length. I roll it up, soak it in patch lube and carry it in my shooting bag in a waterproof canvas bag.

For use, I start the ball at the muzzle, that cur it off. Perfect patch, nearly everytime.

I precut my patches with a hole saw with the teeth ground off in my drill press. Six layers of cloth make many patches quick and easy.

I use square patches cut from bulk ticking. I use a fabric cutter. I can cut a lot of patches in very little time. I'm one of those weird guys that lubed right from the lube tin as I'm shooting. FWIW, I have found no difference in accuracy between round and square patches.

I cut my patches at the muzzle. I use a very sharp knife. Now that's just the way I do it. Acceptable results can be obtained from precut patches whether round or square. I do recommend lubricating patches just prior to loading. Patches do deteriorate from being previously lubricated over time. Carrying a tin of lubricated damp patches or patches dried with a lubricant for a week or two should be fine.

Watched the maniac use strips that were pre cut/scored and after pressing ball in just tore across the strip . May not work with heavy patch material.
