Thanks all for the info. Tried cut at the muzzle. For me I find it a bit fiddly and the knife needs to be razor sharp to do a good job. Might be okay for hunting where I don't shoot much. For range work, much prefer the pre-cut patches. The 3/4" square ones are working vey well, and since I load the gun sitting in an upright gun rack with a large flat table top attached, there is lots of room to lay everything out and getting everything centered is pretty easy.
