I think we have answered your questions. Oils last over spit, or any fluid with water in it. OIl/wax mixtures work well in very hot conditions. Less wax, and more oil helps it stay pliable in colder temperatures. There are Synthetic oils out there that have been specifically designed to work in those very wide Temperature ranges you mention. Think about airplanes, for instance. They may take off from desert airport where surface temperatures of the wings may already be 160 degrees, then fly up to 35,000 feet and higher, where temperatures may get down to -80 degrees or even lower. You have to have great lubricants that can stand that range of temperatures to keep those planes in the air.

Some natural oils, such as Jojoba, and even Extra Virgin Olive oil can withstand very cold temperatures. Of course, being thin, they are perhaps not the best choice to be used when its 100 degrees outside.

If you go up to the box marked Member Resources, you can find recipes for Stumpy's "Moose Milk", and "Moose Snot". Basically, they are variations on one recipe, one for cold weather, and the other for hot weather. Both are "solid" answers to your questions.

The great thing about using Beeswax in any lube mix, is that Beeswax, like honey, has enzymes in it, that are Anti-septics- they resist bacterial growth in the whole mix. That gives long life, a great smell, and the wax helps hold the oil in the fabric, and against the bore when its rubbed against your barrel.

Everyone would like ONE grease that does all things. Mostly that doesn't exist in nature. But, we are fortunate: we have found TWO compounds to mix together, and depending on the percentage of the mix, we can use it for a patch lube in any temperature we might be physically able to endure. :hmm: :surrender:

Count our blessings. They rarely come this easily.
