I bought a new stock for my 30yr old TC Renegade. It started life as a kit and has filled the freezer for many years. The stock has always been awkward, having very little drop. The Pecatonica stock is a perfect fit, after a lot of sanding and fitting. The inletting was nearly drop-in but they left plenty of wood to custom fit the lock, barrel and trigger guard. I'm not a wood worker but have a lot of mechanical aptitude so I was able to make it all work. Now I need to finish the stock to complete the hard work I've put into it so far. Permalyn finish should be here tomorrow or Friday and I should be finished this weekend. I'll post pics once it's done. Pecatonica makes a real good stock. Great guys to deal with also.

More than one Pecatonica replacement TC stocks have passed through my hands. Thinking of doing one more in a better grade maple full stock. More TCs around here than chairs or windows. So would a gun with a TC barrel and tang, with everything else from a different supplier, will it still be a TC?

I am replacing the lock with an L&R made for the TC Renegade/Hawken. I have literally worn the original lock out! This rifle has been shot a lot of times. It has been a favorite shooter of mine. It wears a GM LRH 1:28 barrel for the last 20yrs and has ruined the lives of a bunch of deer! And now it fits me perfectly.

Yes, please, photos if you can.
There's a L&R flintlock and Renegade rebore sitting and waiting for attention.

Nope.

I bought a replacement stock for my renegade as well last winter, just haven’t gotten around to working on it yet. Hopefully this winter. This being my first time fitting a raw stock (with the exception of my Lyman GPR), it went completely over my head to have them drill the ram rod hole if that’s even an option. I guess I’ll be learning how to do that. The other thing with this, my stock .50 cal renegade barrel fits really tight, actually not at all. So I’m going to be doing some inletting for that too. Is this common for their replacement stocks?
I realize it’s better to have it too tight to start than loose, but drilling the ramrod hole has me a little nervous.

A mountain lad was showin' a visitor "great-great gran'paps rifle he carried in the war"

'the stock broke & great gran'pap put a hew one on'.........'the barrel got shot out so gran'pap put a new one on'..........'and the lock broke so pap had to replace it'.

Visitor : "So, it's a new gun"?

'No, it's great-great granpaps old gun he carried in the war'.

I wouldn't mind turning my Renegade into a flintlock. Has this ever been done? I know they made flint renegades so it should be possible to change out the breech plug, add a touch hole, etc?

The touch-hole is already in the replacement breechplugs. Just change out the breechplug and the lock & you’re good to go. Might need to touch up the lock inlet just a dab for the flinch-lock.

did this on a percussion barrel. You'll have to rebreach the barrel, of course (unless you get a whole new one ... but then you'll have to tinker with new underlugs, new sights, new rib and so on - this can get pretty pricey pretty quickly)

since the sights are already set, the timing )where you get the flats of the breeech plug to line up with the flats of the barrel) can get a bit tricky, but it is do- able. you'll probably need to refile and refinish the barrel when you're done, but i think the effort is well spent.

good luck with your project, and remember (to paraphrase the little green Star Wars guy):

once rocks banged have you, forever will they dominate your range time.
