Maybe try rubber vacuum caps used for blocking off lines in the Automotive business?
With one in place over the the percussion cap, trim the bottom so it goes down far enough so the cap will go off, then trim some of the top off so it isn't too thick to stop the hammer. Bunch of different sizes to fit your needs
I use them with the hammer down on the nipple in storage.
