Those are decent kits. You can make a nice carbine out of that.
I built one a few years ago. I added sling swivels and a sling to it.

Did it happen to come with a choice between that side plate and the Bess 2nd Model sideplate? I ask as Dixie Gun Works offers a kit and you get both the trade gun sideplate like yours, and this sideplate:

Yes it has the sideplate in your picture under the serpent one. I am probably going to use the one you posted there.
