Welcome aboard! :hatsoff:

I own Lymans, T/Cs and Cabelas. And Traditions and CVA too... :youcrazy:
I like 'em all but my favorites are my Lyman GPRs. I have a .50 caplock and a .54 flinter. They both shoot great.
That said, I think my T/C Renegades are slightly better built guns. I have one that is a smoothbore that I had lotsa fun hunting squirrels with this fall.

I agree that you should try to handle a few different rifles if possible. Even better if you could shoot 'em. Go with what feels right at your shoulder.
If you're like me, you'll end up with more than one(too many) anyway. :youcrazy: Enjoy your new addiction...

Oops!

I gave you a .50 cal bullet reference. :shocked2:

Sorry -- that bullet will not work well at all!

I only shoot roundball out of my .54 Lyman.

Crack and all - thanks for the input. To clarify a few things, I plan to do mostly hunting. A few people told that a more compact/less weight gun would suit me best in the woods. Also, I didn't mean that the gun was inaccurate- that's all on me. Only shot a couple times and I'm enjoying the flinchies. I was just saying that I'm not comfortable with my abilties to make a quality shot on a deer. I'm into bowhunting pretty big and I get annoyed when guys just pick up their bow once and wander into the woods.

Is the GPR a cumbersome gun, or am I limting myself by looking for something shorter? As of now, I'm leaning towards the GPR and spending a lot of time shooting roundballs in the offseason. I guy I work with spends a lot of time on the range and offered to help me out.

I am not in a hurry so I think I'm going to check out as many guns as I can. I'm not a tall guy by any means and the trigger reach? 14" on the Deerstalker feels a little long for me. Any suggestions for the vertically 5'7" challenged?

Thanks

Don't let anyone tell you that a ML must be short and compact to hunt well with, many use 44" barreled and longer guns and do just fine, any gun that will fit your lop will do jusr fine, the LGP is a good gun in the woods it is by no means cumbersome or akward.

hi jwargo, fox ridge outfitters has .54 and .58 hawken rifles for 519.00. takes about 8 weeks to get one. i don't own a flintlock, but the tc rifles are reliable and accurate. i have a renegade and hawken[perc] and they always fire. can't say that about my trade rifle. fox ridge also provides extra barrels. i have a gm barrel on my hawken and it drives round balls. chopper
