I am asking for our community to not encourage folks to make powder.

As Clint once said "A man has to know his limitations". I know folks who don't have walking around sense, let alone the I.Q. for fooling around with flammables. I also know a gentleman, greatest guy one could meet, even has a Ph.D. in Engineering and Applied Sciences. He bought a new JD riding lawn mower, tried to clear debris from the exhaust chute with the engine running, lost two fingers (That's why they put that warning sticker there). Less than a year later, he wanted to set-up a woodworking shop in his basement, (No BS) he lost two fingers on the other hand running a table saw. I really feel sorry for the guy, because now when he waves, he looks like an Aggies fan. So I say no, not everyone should try to make their own, then again some sure don't need to own a chainsaw or motorized equipment. Oh, and by all means keep all sharp pointy objects away from them as well.

It is a free country and I don’t want it to be illegal or even regulated, but I know a guy who’s whole family are avid hunters and after the third time he accidentally discharged his firearm sitting in a blind, he decided that he had no business out there. We have to help these folks. I saw a guy just yesterday getting ready to pallet jack a load that was probably around 800 pounds down a 20% grade by himself. I stopped him. It’s part of my job. They’re out there.

Sure I would buy another one if the right one came along. I have enough flintlock supplies to last as long as I will. The market can do whatever it wants.

So I went on a frantic and ultimately blind search for black powder, especially the Olde Eynsford by cartridge rifles like...daggonit. If anyone knows of a place to get it, I would sure appreciate the lead

In my many years of shooting black powder I have used Austin ,dupont ,elephant , schutzen ,swiss and goex. There is still a market for the stuff and some body will make it .Goex is a popular brand but the dirtiest fouls as bad if not worse than elephant .there are other companies making black powder names people companies come and go .one thing is for sure the cost of gun powder is going to get very pricey

Just like reloading for unmentionable, and loading and shooting your blackpowder guns. It is as safe as you make it, but any horseplay and or drinking etc. are out of bounds totally. Like driving top speed in a sports car, you better lean the safety edge your way.

No not at all there are other suppliers of real gun powder I did not use Goex gun powder that much. There are other brands out there I would how ever recomend a Boycot every thing that Hogden makes that includes smokeless powder & pyrodex etc.hurt them they deserve it

please explain why Hodgdon is worthy of boycott etc?

No it won't deter me, what will is I've gotten more into modern (AR) unmentionables and don't really see myself doing much muzzleloading any more. I'll be selling off some of my muzzleloader collection.

As others have said, it is the newer folks who are going to be most dissuaded. And the folks who rush out and buy 50 pounds as soon as they hear news like this are driving the final nail in this sport's coffin all the while complaining about how the government bureaucrats are killing it. I might also be a little angry because I bought my first flintlock the week before news came out and was waiting on my next paycheck to place an order.

This is a letter from Hodgdon president posted on another site.

"Thanks for your letter dated 29 September, 2021.

We have received a fair amount of feedback since we announced our decision last week, much of it in a similar sentiment to your letter.

To be clear, our preferred outcome in this situation is to be able to sell the GOEX operation and are actively working to make this happen. We will continue these efforts at our best possible speed as we know we are on a tight timeline for the end of the year.

At the Hodgdon Powder Company, we have used the tagline “The Gunpowder People” for some years now. Most of us are handloaders, shooters and muzzleloader shooters and have a lot of passion for the sport. While this is not the outcome we would have preferred, our focus now is on pursuing a sale. We will work as hard as we can for this outcome.

Thanks for reaching out.

High demand for product increases the likelihood that investors will want to buy into manufacturing the product.
