Has there been a calling out for money?
Did they not have work comp or liability insurance?

My thought exactly. Unless a need is expressed, I don't believe donations would be apprpropriate.
On this subject: I am of a mind to help fellow humans as much as I can when the need is demonstrated. But, I am very cautious about on-line, and especially, forum generated soliciations. I belong to another forum (not ml or firearms related) where donations were requested. A member lost his shop and business when a heavy snowstorm collapsed his shop building. Quite a bit of money was raised and sent to him. He reported that family and friends rebuild the shop and insurance covered his machinery. He was back in business very quickly. It was evident he didn't need our money but he kept it. Shortly afterwards he quit the forum.
I'll make an inquiry about any possible needs from Powder Inc. folks and report back. Others can do as they wish.

Below is the response I received when I inquired about any financial need. Note, no mention of financial need is in the reply.
For those who may not know, Don was the 'powder man' in these parts for many years. He was well known at Berryville for the shoots there where he sold powder at very reasonable prices. We miss his presence more than we miss the powder buying opportunity. The other references are to Jerry the owner of Powder, Inc. and his son, Jerrod, who was hurt in the explosion.
Jerry says that Jerrod is getting stronger each day. He has had 4 operations with at least 2 more to go.
Jerry appreciates everyone's thoughts and prayers but says they are doing fine.
Thanks, Frank and thank everyone who is concerned. I know that others' thoughts and prayers can be healing.
If you will let other know that Don is not doing very well and seems to be going down faster than we expected. His only brother passed away early yesterday morning and it just seemed to take what little energy he had left yesterday.
Prayers for peace for him and the family would be welcomed.
