Ok actually I have a couple of questions. I have a 42" C weight rice barrel that I am planning on using for my next build. Do you guys know anyone who will pre-inlet the barrel channel in a stock blank? And my second question, Will a C weight rice work in a pre inlet stock which has the barrel channel cut for a C weight Colrain.

I would send the barrel & stock to Fred Miller. He has done allot of them & does a superb job.

Will the barrel channels be the same ? Very possibly. All of them have a few thousands dif but it is not noticable on some. Let me go look at the chart LC gave me & see how they compair to a Colerain. I don't have a C50 in 42" here in Rice. Be back shortly.

OK, I checked to be sure & I don't have a C50 Rice 42" here, but I measured a Colerain C50 and it is close to the chart they give & also looked at the chart Rice gave me & it is the same profile. I was sure it was but wanted to double check. I also checked a C54 in a 38" in the rifle I am building now that has a Colerain in it & the C54 Rice barrel fits in perfectly.

Now, normally I have to take out a lil wood here & there to fully inlet any of them, so most likely either barrel will work Unless the tang is fully inletted. In that instance it will not work as there is a Big dif. in the tang of a Colerain vs a Rice.

In quality of workmanship, IMHO the Rice barrel is Top Dog hands down... If you are shopping price then go with the Colerain. They are both good quality barrels, as are the Getz & the Green Mountain too. All of them will shoot more accurately than the general everyday marksman can hold them.

Thanks Birddog, I already have the Rice barrel in .54 cal. and was amazed at the finish. I'm not even going to have to file it. Thanks for the info on the stock inletting as well. I see Mr. Brooks has a Virginia kit for sale now and while I already have the stock blank it has me thinking. I'm still on the fence as to the style I want to go with. Pretty much have it narrowed down to 3, A Christian's Spring, The Schriet rifle, or an early Virgina similer to the Faber rifle.
