I was out at the LGS today with the boys looking for a new toy. I came across a CVA 12ga SXS looks good, no rust, barrles are cyl I beleave. choke, for $300 and a Pedersoli 10 ga SXS with 3 chokes, nice looking for $550 I was wondering if these are to high or just about right for price.

For a double percussion, there is not a lot of choice.
I have had a few Pedersoli side by side, through the years. Quite reliable.
They were 10 ga, and 12ga.
The 10 ga. was heavy, quick point and follow through was limited, but it did very well on Canada Geese
The CVA's were not too good. Poor wood, poor fit, and the locks were not too good.
I hope this helps.
Best Regards
Old Ford

I can not comment on the CVA but I too owned a 10g Pedersoli but mine had fixed chokes.
Yes they are heavy but I still managed to shoot it very good, even on walked up woodcock in timber!
I only sold it because it was heavy, I got their 12g version that did not fit me but I made it fit and I do ok with that.
Hope this helps.

Here is a pic of my 12g but the 10g did the same.
I allways thought after how a single barrel 10g would make a usefull gun.

The prices you are looking at are about average
at the moment....like others have said "Stay away from the CVA". You could probably find a nice
Navy 12 by Pietta that would suit your needs...
Also...single barrels are sweet in the field.

I have a 12 gauge SxS CVA shotgun made from a kit. THe wood and fit are terrible, and the action leaves much to be desired. But they do shoot. I had to do some tuning of the locks, and had to bend the sear bar on one trigger to get it to fire properly, but the gun fires reliably, now. Most of the trouble arose from the indifferent inletting of the locks by the factory. Once I figured out why the darn thing was not working correctly, the fixes were not so hard to do.

Conversely, I have never been impressed with the factory built CVA shotguns. If you are willing, and able, to do some work on the gun to fix the problems, they can be good shooters. If you will have to pay someone to do this work for you, take that into consideration when negotiating a price.

I have a Pedersoli 10 I bought as a kit gun several years ago from Dixie Gun Works. It doesn't have the screw in chokes , wish it did. I'm not impressed with the locks ...seem cheaply made. The gun is a very hard kicking gun with the max load. It maybe because it's so light and has a steel butt plate. If I were you I'd look around and try to find a shotgun that has screw in chokes and maybe in a 12 gage unless you plan on hunting Spring turkeys,I'd go with the 10.. Good luck

I'm wanting the 10ga for turkey and waterfowl. The one I'm looking at has screw in chokes so that a big plus for me.

I found with my gun the one barrel doesn't hit point of aim. I would think with screw in chokes you may or may not do the same. I make do with my problem but then I'm shooting at turkeys on the ground. Wing shooting may cause a bigger problem. Good luck

I always thought the 10 ga. Pedersoli from Cabelas kicked too much with full loads, but I did own one for awhile and killed some geese with it. I got rid of it several years ago and bought the 12 ga. which does fine for ducks and the occasional goose. You might be able to get a better deal on it if you shopped around, but they tend to bring good money these days. If you plan on shooting steel shot the CVA would be pretty much worthless in my opinion, you can at least shoot steel in the Pedersoli.
