Primitive Biathlon is moving over snow with snowshoes and shooting, for folks reading this thread who are unsure...
A "woodswalk" where the participants run, instead of walking and the event is timed, with penalties for misses, is called a Seneca shoot, so don't overlook something called that if you're looking for a shoot and move fast event.

The Dalton Gang biathlon in Dalton NH is no more, the property has been sold. There is a gun club in NH that has the targets and may get up and running!

Nit Wit. I went to a first ever biathlon at the Cheshire County fish & game club in NH last year. They said due to the good turn out they would probably have another one in 2019. It was held the Sunday after the Southern VT shoot. I haven't heard if they are indeed going to have a shoot this winter.

I agree, what can be done to change that?
Well, for me..., move to a location where there is annual snow on a reliable basis. Where I am the county doesn't buy snow plows with a > shape, only with a "C" or scoop shape, since we rarely have enough snow to warrant such. This year in our area is the "wettest" since 1889.... and they expect a lot of snow, which for us is 24" or more. Folks in Upper PA and NY State (Especially near Buffalo) will laugh at the notion that 24" is "a lot of snow". THEN after I move, simply find a farm where such a shoot could be held, find prize donators, and then run it.... maybe even a blanket shoot would work, in snow shoes of course.
BTW a "woods RUN" without snow, for muzzleloading guns, is a "Seneca" shoot, folks!

The Shandaken Primitive Biathlon has been postponed till Jan 27 due to the impending weekend storm that is predicted to dump 30-40" of snow in the region. It is unfortunate, because now the date conflicts with the Lamoille shoot. I guess I will have to flip a coin to see which one I can attend. SWMBO will only let me spend one day of the weekend shooting.
The southern VT primitive biathlon is this week end, Sat & Sun,. Looks like the weather is going to be nice, and the temps too. Don't know how much snow they have, but I think they have plenty based on the last few weeks forecasts.

Just a bump for Saturday, October26 at Pemigewasset Valley Fish & Game Club, Holderness, NH
Registration is open all day, (8:00 am to 2:00 pm).The 1.25 mile course takes about an hour to run/walk and shoot. Last February, we had a guy run and shoot the course in 26 minutes, (ON SNOWSHOES) and score 8 hits. No snow expected for this shoot.
New shooters welcome. They plan on offering to take any new shooters out about 10:00 am to go over the course and show them how to use a muzzle-loading rifle or smooth-bore.
It will be my first time shooting a smooth bore rifle and I plan to walk this first one.

So I'm heading off tomorrow morning to my first shoot with a muzzleloader, I'm not really competing, it's a fun learning experience for me. This is what I have, did I forget something or over pack. Should only be 8-10 targets.

I like to bring a "T" handle that screws onto the end of the ram rod just in case I need extra omph to seat a ball. I also bring a small bottle of liquid patch lube to assist in pulling a ball. You also want to bring a nipple pick and a spare nipple. Make sure all screws on the gun are snug and the wedge is snug. Had a fried lose the wedge pin from his gun on a shoot last year, and the barrel nearly flew off the stock.
Waking up this thread because it sounds like a blast! I have never done one but watching the modern version in the Olympics is pretty interesting. I would love to give it a try.

The biathlon at the Pemi today was a good time. I even shot better than last winter.
A group of the Ancient Ones was supposed to come over, but when I left at around 11: 00 they hadn't yet arrived.
The winter biathlon is scheduled for Feb 19th. Hope to see some of you there.

Are these held anywhere else? I'm not particularly interested in a winter biathlon using snow shoes, but a timed woods "walk" running event would certainly interest me.
