What do we know about lead?
We sure use it enough in our muzzleloaders, but there is more to lead than just projectiles...
Lead (Pb) is a metal of groups IVA & IVB on the periodic table.
Lead's atomic number is 82 and it's atomic weight is 207.2 with a melting point of 327.4 degrees C.
Lead was known and used by the early Egyptians and Babylonians and throughout Roman times in water pipes.
The principal lead ore is the sulfide, PbS, commonly called GALENA...
Lead is a soft metal having little tensil strength, and is the 3rd. heaviest common metal, except for gold (Au) and mercury (Hg)...
Lead is also a poison and bullets and round balls should be removed from the game ASAP to prevent the poisioning of the meat and yourself once you eat it...(so, get the lead out)
Lead ore contains other heavy metals like copper, antimony, zinc, arsenic, bismuth plus gold and silver...Only by melting the ore and skimming off the "IMPURITIES" do we end up with pure lead.
I just thought you might like to know, and to think, doctors use to give wounded soldiers lead bullets to bite on during an operation...
